It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride the past month - the highs have included participating in a successful Reinvent Your Career Expo out at Sydney Olympic Park and launching my 7 Steps CAREERS Program online training series.

The lows have been very low, sadly, as I've attended 2 funerals the past month.  Both were for young ladies who battled cancer and the world is a lesser place now that they have left this world far too soon. This has made me think long and hard about who we are, what we do and why we've been blessed with this fragile life we lead.

Are we making the most of this blessing regardless of how much time we have? I don't have all the answers but I do know that I am so grateful for all the small blessings each day - waking up, seeing what's around me, loving my family and friends and having the capacity to help those in need.

I've also been thinking about how we act and react to others and how important emotional intelligence and empathy is in any relationship.  Emotional intelligence is a hot topic of psychological research in recent years, especially in how it affects today's workforce.

Anything that impacts the effectiveness of people's minds also impacts the businesses they run or work for and the working relationships they develop. Many experts now believe that a person's emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) may be more important than their IQ and is certainly a better predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness.
