Time to Update Your Account Information

As we progress through life, there can be many changes-small or large-that affect our financial records. We might move, marry or divorce, change an email address or phone number, or experience other household transitions. When changes like these occur, we'd like to know. That will help us continue to provide you with the best possible service; here's why.

Contact Information

By keeping your contact information up to date, you'll ensure that we can reach you quickly with important information. It's important that we have your current phone number, email address, and mailing address for the following purposes:

  • Verifying credit card activity that looks unusual or suspicious, to help protect you from fraud.
  • Letting you know when you've incurred a fee or used certain account services like Courtesy Pay.
  • Providing you with account statements and year-end tax information by mail or secure email.
  • Facilitating wire transfers, card activation, and even calls to our office; situations where we need to carefully verify your identity without seeing you in person.

Account Beneficiaries

It's also wise to check and make any necessary changes to your account's beneficiaries any time your family status changes. Doing that will help ensure a simple and easy transition for the person handling your affairs when you're gone.

Why not check your account records now?

It's a great idea to check and update your account information and beneficiaries every year, or whenever you have a major life change like a new job, marriage, children, or home ownership.

To review and update your account, simply visit any SCCU Branch to make updates. We're always happy to help.

Debit vs. Credit

When using your SCCU MasterCard Debit Card for a retail purchase, you will be given a choice between debit (Point of Sale transactions using your PIN) or credit (signature transaction).

In both cases, the amount of your purchase will be deducted from your checking account. But here are the differences:

  • Debit transactions are processed through the ATM network. You enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and the purchase cost is deducted from your checking account. By using a PIN based transaction, the purchase is subject to our normal ATM withdrawal limits.

  • Credit transactions are processed through the MasterCard network. You sign for the purchase; the purchase cost is deducted from your checking account. Credit transactions are based on your available balance and are not limited to the ATM withdrawal limits. These transactions will not post immediately to your checking account, but may affect your available balance.

So when asked to choose between debit and credit, always choose credit, unless you are receiving cash back.
