WEEKLY ARTICLE:

The Unassuming Apple

We wanted to say a few words about apples this week since they are the weeks featured dessert.

Apples are SO simple and humble.

We think that their numerous health benefits are simply taken for granted because they are such a commonly consumed fruit.

But apples are loaded with cellular protective antioxidant rich phyto nutrients: substances that are unique to plant based foods, and that have amazing healing properties.

Here are some of the amazing things that the simple and unassuming apple can do for your body:

  • Via their phytonutrients, apples can help to regulate blood sugar, preventing spikes and dips in blood sugar levels.
The phytonutrient polyphenols present in apples have been shown to lesson the absorption of glucose from the digestive tract, (even naturally occurring glucose from healthy foods); to stimulate cells of the pancreas to secrete insulin; and to increase the uptake of glucose from the blood via stimulation of insulin receptor cells, providing and supporting very helpful mechanisms to make it easier for your body to regulate it's blood sugar levels.

These are all really good things! And it is absolutely amazing that up to the minute research shows that apples, with their important polyphenols, can do this.
  • Apples are an important source of dietary fiber.
The health benefits of high fiber diets are particularly important in the prevention of heart disease through healthy regulation of the type and amount of fat that is found in the blood.

High fiber diets are also beneficial in the digestive process, and in the motility and elimination of waste.

If you want it out fast, eat apples!

  • Research also shows that apples have the ability to significantly alter "bad" bacteria in the intestinal tract.
As a result, the all so important "good" gut bacteria benefit, and as a result of that, the all so important large intestine, and our immune system, are greatly strengthened.
  • Consuming the whole apple is important!
As mentioned above, apples are a great source of super food plant phyto nutrients such as polyphenol, flavonol, and quercetin, and are also a good source of pectin, vitamin C, and soluble fiber.

These nutrients are disproportionately present in the skin of the apple, making the skin a particularly valuable part of the fruit, and thus substantiating the necessity of eating the whole fruit, and not just a processed form such as applesauce or apple juice.

So to sum things up, apples numerous health benefits include, but are not at all limited to:

*Antioxidant Properties

*Cardiovascular Support

*Blood Sugar Regulation

*Healthy Intestinal Support

*And Immune System Support

A lot of research is being done on the amazing nutritional properties of the myriad of phyto nutrients found in plant foods, many of which reside in the unassuming apple.

But all plants foods are as amazing and unassuming as the apple, just in different ways. They all contain specialized combinations of very amazing phyto nutrient substances that protect the health of our bodies.

And you just cannot get everything from one plant source. Not at all in fact. There are so many super nutrients in plants, that many of them have yet to be discovered or researched.

So a variety of fresh plant based foods is of key importance, because it insures that we consume all of these important nutrients no matter if they have been discovered yet or not!

We don't want to find out years from now, that something as simple as eating an apple, or a variety of other health giving fruits and vegetables, could have saved us from developing, or suffering from a health issue all along.

Here at Wholly Macro we always say: Eat as many different healthy and natural plant foods as you possibly can each day, even if you don't know what in particular they are good for. Your body does KNOW. It will figure it all out for you, and will reward you with good health as a result.

And that our friends, is exactly why we use SO many various plant based foods each and every week, in each and every menu, here at Wholly Macro. Including the unassuming apple!

May health, happiness, and prosperity be your unavoidable natural state and your ongoing daily experience.

Here's some feedback from a consultation client.....

" three years ago I discovered that I had breast cancer.  I had heard of Macrobiotics years ago. I didn't understand the concept but immediately I knew that that would be the route that I would pursue. But where to go and who to see was the question. Thank God for reading the macrobiotic newsletter. For in the newsletter there was  an article about Gayle Stolove. I just felt her strength and passion burn through the page that I was reading. I immediately made an appointment to see her and although I was still so frightened,  I felt so comfortable talking with Gayle. Gayle  guided me through the whole process. I thought that the macrobiotic way of life would be boring and just eating rice. Well, I love the foods that I eat and I just feel good about it all.  You see, after the surgery, you are sort of left on your own.You have to make your own decisions, etc. Everyone gives you different advice as what to eat, what to do, etc. Doctors don't understand what the patient is going through nor do they understand what kind of diet they should follow. I adopted Gayle as my guardian angel.  You can't find that with any nutritionist or doctor. I love receiving her weekly e-mailed newsletters. They are so full of wonderful knowledge and beautiful healthy recipes. Gayle is a remarkable human being. She truly cares for her clients and gives them her all, one hundred percent of the time. Gayle has been there and therefore she is so compassionate and dedicates her life to helping people like me....."     a cancer survivor
