WEEKLY ARTICLE
And yet another year under our belts.
My birthday is in early January, so each new year, literally, means that I turn a year older. Right off the bat!
This year, as we turned the page into 2016, and I turned the page onto yet another year, I just so happened to be reading my favorite magazine, you guessed it: AARP, and there was a section called "wise quotes" that had a few interesting quotes that got me thinking...
One quote spoke of the self-knowledge that comes with age and experience. The awareness and enjoyment of looking before you leap, and thinking before your speak. And the wisdom to know the difference.
While another quote said: "Any experience is better than no experience".
These two quotes really got the wheels turning!
And I concluded that I just don't think that any experience is better than no experience.
I think that we need to pick and choose our "experiences" wisely, rather than blindly fall into them.
|
Having the knowledge, intuition, and discernment to make good decisions for ourselves, to choose to take part in any given experience happening in our world, and to choose to stand down if we don't like the experience happening before us, is a truly great feature of conscious aging.
Conscious aging is probably one of the more wonderful features of growing older.
With each year that passes, we have the opportunity to accrue knowledge and wisdom.
"If we only knew then what we know now"!! Just think how different life would be.
But there is no real way to know, when we are younger, what we know now. That process of accruing knowledge and wisdom can only come with age and life experience.
I find it very enjoyable to possess both the knowledge that the years bring, and the awareness of that knowledge.
I truly enjoy drawing upon all that I have learned over the years, as I mold the rest of my life. And yes, the earlier years were very random. We have no real control whatsoever over what we will experience when we are younger. Our parents, our elders, our teachers, and various institutions choose that for us for the most part.
|
But ah, as we get older, WE get to choose for ourselves. And I see maturity and advanced age as a real opportunity to experience and enjoy all of the wisdom from the years that we have put in on this planet.
The only real hindrance that I see to pure enjoyment of life as we age is physical illness.
I see too many people that are unable to enjoy their brilliant and experienced mind knowledge, because they are so preoccupied nursing their sick bodies!
This is truly a tragedy in my opinion.
It appears to me, to be impossible to enjoy life, and enjoy and appreciate the purity of mind, while dealing with the pain of an infirm body, although illness, in and of itself, is a real opportunity for growth and learning. But only if that growth and learning includes leading a much healthier and wiser lifestyle as a result. Otherwise it just begets further pain and suffering.
We spend so much of our time learning, we spend years and years trying to figure life out.
And part of that figuring out should, and MUST be, figuring out how to best take care of our bodies, especially when younger, so that they can best take care of us as we get older.
Because in a perfect world, as we age, we should find that perfect sweet spot, the time in our life between the earlier learning years, and the reflective final years. That sweet number of years, and lets make those years as many as possible, where we can take all of the knowledge that we have amassed over the years, and use it to live well, to live smart, and to ENJOY sipping from our own personal cups of enlightenment, peace of mind, and life experience, as we preside over the rest of our lives.
We can take the wisdom that comes with each year that passes, and use it to enjoy our wise knowledge, or we can end up loosing out on it due to nursing our sick bodies.
My wish for all of us this brand new year, is that we all get the opportunity to live within that perfect sweet spot, in health and well being, nurturing ourselves with positive experiences and healthy food, in a perfect reflection of lives well lived.

Here's some feedback from a consultation client..... " three years ago I discovered that I had breast cancer. I had heard of Macrobiotics years ago. I didn't understand the concept but immediately I knew that that would be the route that I would pursue. But where to go and who to see was the question. Thank God for reading the macrobiotic newsletter. For in the newsletter there was an article about Gayle Stolove. I just felt her strength and passion burn through the page that I was reading. I immediately made an appointment to see her and although I was still so frightened, I felt so comfortable talking with Gayle. Gayle guided me through the whole process. I thought that the macrobiotic way of life would be boring and just eating rice. Well, I love the foods that I eat and I just feel good about it all. You see, after the surgery, you are sort of left on your own.You have to make your own decisions, etc. Everyone gives you different advice as what to eat, what to do, etc. Doctors don't understand what the patient is going through nor do they understand what kind of diet they should follow. I adopted Gayle as my guardian angel. You can't find that with any nutritionist or doctor. I love receiving her weekly e-mailed newsletters. They are so full of wonderful knowledge and beautiful healthy recipes. Gayle is a remarkable human being. She truly cares for her clients and gives them her all, one hundred percent of the time. Gayle has been there and therefore she is so compassionate and dedicates her life to helping people like me....." a cancer survivor |
