Each time Wholly Macro closes for a break, we get asked about where we are going and what we are doing. Which we are happy to share with everyone of course.
But the truth is, that Wholly Macro is just not all that glamorous!!
We don't jet set around the world every time we close for a break.
In fact, most of the time these days we just stay home.
We love our home, and our yard. And we don't get nearly enough time to enjoy them.
Does anyone?
But the home (and business), come with a lot of baggage! There are so many details to attend to, and so little time! And it seems to us, that everything takes SO long to accomplish these days.
And because our business, the all so important FOOD, and our clients always come first, always, quite often there is just no time left to attend to other matters.
So when we close and stay home, we luxuriate in having enough time to regroup, reboot, revamp, and get back on top of things.
This is helpful for our business, for our creative process, for our health, and even for our basically non-existent social life! We get the tiniest glimpse of what it would be like to actually have time for a social life!
A little teaser!
And did we mention sleep?
We wrote an entire newsletter on vacations a few years ago to address Wholly Macro's growing need for regularly scheduled breaks and /or vacations as we "age".
We wrote about the different types of vacations and breaks.
The importance of vacations and breaks.
And many other fun and fascinating vacation trivia that all go along with a healthy and balanced life.
We have not re-run it for quite a while, and felt that this week was a good time to do so.
Please enjoy the newsletter entitled Vacation Procrastination, which you will find reprinted in it's entirely, just below.

WEEKLY ARTICLE
Vacation Procrastination
Wholly Macro specializes in diagnosing other people's health problems and in cooking healing cuisine to remedy and / or prevent said problems.
And we get so wrapped up in our work that we don't always take enough time to take a good look at our own selves, although we do always eat (our own cooking) exceptionally well.
So recently, we began taking a little closer look at ourselves, and to our shock and dismay we found that we are showing some symptoms of a malady we like to call Vacation Procrastination!
Throughout the year there are many seasonal afflictions, such as Spring Fever, Seasonal Mood Disorder, Winter Blues, and even Summertime Blues.
We address these various afflictions via our newsletters during their appropriate seasons quite often, but Vacation Procrastination is not especially seasonal. In fact, it can strike at any time, and is cumulative. In other words, the longer you procrastinate in taking a vacation, the worse the symptoms of Vacation Procrastination can become.
Common symptoms include but are not limited to: workaholic tendencies, guilt, panic, anxiety, impatience, inability to relax, impaired performance, inability to handle stress, low energy, and foggy memory of what a vacation feels like.

Early diagnosis is key. Prevention is an even better approach!
|
Preventative measures to help avoid Vacation Procrastination Include:
Letting someone else plan a vacation for you .
Please be sure that it is the type of vacation that does the work for you. A tour or cruise is best. Let them do the cooking, navigating, "driving", and cleaning while you simply have fun and work on your rest and relaxation skills! There are many health-oriented options to choose from.

Taking a "Staycation". Vacation Procrastination and its various symptoms can sometimes restrict your ability to plan and / or travel, and you may find that you need to "get away" without really getting away. This age old remedy allows you to enjoy the benefits of a vacation without having to actually travel because we all know that in this post 9/11 era, travel can sometimes be stressful. You have to be up for it. Taking a stay at home vacation may be just what you need to recharge, regroup, reboot, and reduce your stress.

Taking a vacation that is sufficient in length. Every several vacations, you simply must plan one that "gets you away from it all" long enough to be completely therapeutic and re-energizing. Take the time to plan it appropriately. Be creative. Make it work for you. Experience a complete change in latitude / attitude, and return home with a whole new outlook, appreciation, and perspective on life, and enjoy experiencing whatever and wherever that may take you.
Building in short breaks. Create "mini-vacations". Take long weekends in between planning an international tour! Divide and conquer instead of taking one long vacation with too few breaks in between.
Faking it! One of our personal favorites is to rent a place somewhere, anywhere, for a week, a month, an entire season, and pretend to live there. Set up (temporary) "house". Shop and explore. Cook and create to your hearts content. Be a local, live the life, but without the pressure of the daily grind. Please Note: In order for this remedy to work you must turn the phone and computer off. Do not have your regular mail forwarded, and whatever you do, do not check your email!!

Please keep in mind that it is best to treat Vacation Procrastination with a diverse selection of the above preventative measures. As with everything, it does not have to be an all or nothing approach. Mix it up. Stay at home for one break. Take a nice relaxing cruise for another. Take a few short trips / long weekends to local destinations for another, and every several vacations plan "the big one" and go all out on a full blown (R & R optional) adventure.
|
Wholly Macro has been known to work for as many as six months at a time without a break in the past.
That is not balanced and does not allow us to set a good example for all of you. Especially when we find ourselves exhibiting some of the very symptoms of Vacation Procrastination that we have listed above!! So we are going to follow our own advice (in our advancing years) and seek balance, taking regularly scheduled "vacations" of various kinds, be they restful stay at home regroupings, or grand adventures.
Staying home is a real treat for us. And also very economical.
So you guessed it, this upcoming break / closure is going to be a "staycation" for us, and we are really looking forward to it.
Our next closure, in July, will be a European family cruise. We'll save the jet setting for that one!
We have devoted an entire section of this newsletter (above), on how to best continue to utilize and enjoy the convenience and health benefits of the Wholly Macro food, even while we are closed, because we intend to continue taking good care of you, just as we always have, even if we do take a few extra breaks per year (to take good care of ourselves too). We will always give you plenty of advance notice before we close so that you can order extra food and freeze it.
So just in case you have "procrastinated" about ordering extra food for yourself to use while we are closed, please take a good look at the April 22, 2015 Wholly Macro Delivery Menu just below, because it is a GREAT one, full of favorite dishes that freeze really well.

Here's some feedback from a consultation client..... " three years ago I discovered that I had breast cancer. I had heard of Macrobiotics years ago. I didn't understand the concept but immediately I knew that that would be the route that I would pursue. But where to go and who to see was the question. Thank God for reading the macrobiotic newsletter. For in the newsletter there was an article about Gayle Stolove. I just felt her strength and passion burn through the page that I was reading. I immediately made an appointment to see her and although I was still so frightened, I felt so comfortable talking with Gayle. Gayle guided me through the whole process. I thought that the macrobiotic way of life would be boring and just eating rice. Well, I love the foods that I eat and I just feel good about it all. You see, after the surgery, you are sort of left on your own.You have to make your own decisions, etc. Everyone gives you different advice as what to eat, what to do, etc. Doctors don't understand what the patient is going through nor do they understand what kind of diet they should follow. I adopted Gayle as my guardian angel. You can't find that with any nutritionist or doctor. I love receiving her weekly e-mailed newsletters. They are so full of wonderful knowledge and beautiful healthy recipes. Gayle is a remarkable human being. She truly cares for her clients and gives them her all, one hundred percent of the time. Gayle has been there and therefore she is so compassionate and dedicates her life to helping people like me....." a cancer survivor |
