The big news is that Wholly Macro is back. Or should I say Wholly Macro's FOOD is back!!!

 

We hope that you survived your week without us!!

 

It was a quick mini-break, but it gave us a chance to attempt to catch up with ourselves, and it also gave us a chance to spend a little more time on self maintenance than we usually do, something that all too often falls by the wayside when we are up and running and busy.

 

We are sure you can relate!

Belly Fat Busted

 

 

 

Speaking of self-maintenance, while we were closed, and in yet another of my nursing magazines, I read an interesting article entitled "Belly Fat".

 

Yes, you all know what I am referring to. That uncomfortable roll of well, for lack of another word to politely describe it: Fat. Fat that resides as a sort of permanent fixture, within most of our abdomens.

 

Even if we are thin and trim, many of us still have a roll of belly fat within our abdomens.

  

I know that I do!

 

Be honest. You probably do as well!!

 

Unless you are 20 years old!! LOL.

 

I have to say, mine has shrunk considerably over these past 20 years of diligently following the Wholly Macro diet and lifestyle program, but it is still there. A small alive roll of fat. I say alive, because it seems to change dimension, sometimes bigger and more distended, sometimes flatter. This, in direct correlation to my entire mind - body state of being.

 

I am always and consciously exercising, visualizing, and eating properly to stay on top of it, and make it go away altogether.

 

Exercise helps in obvious ways, especially stress hormone reducing - core strengthening exercise. I write about the benefits of exercise all of the time. 

 

But visualization helps in achieving this goal also.

 

Picture yourself the way you want to look and feel.

 

Visualize this image of yourself as already existing, and let reality follow.

 

It will.

 

 

 

But of course you will have to take action also, in addition to purely visualizing.

 

Right up there with exercise and visualization is diet.

 

The food that we ingest can either add to the belly fat dilemma, or help to diminish it.

 

I have taught for many years that fat does not only appear on the outside of our body where we can see it, but also lines the insides of our arteries, and creates deposits internally in addition, in and around our vital organs.

 

 

 

A very thin person can, and often does have harmful fat deposits internally that are not visible, but are totally related to poor diet and lifestyle habits.

 

These internal fat deposits, especially the ones in and around the abdomen, are quite possibly the most dangerous.

 

The article that I read this week, courtesy of Advance For Nurses, completely supports my teachings.

 

The article actually correlates abdominal fat with increased stroke risk, cardiovascular risk, and diabetes. It states that "excessive fat deep inside the abdomen can overwhelm the normal function of the liver. The liver plays a key role in cholesterol control, cardiovascular risk control, and diabetes control. If any one of these three risk factors are uncontrolled, risk of stroke is increased".

 

 

 

Are you glancing down at your belly yet??

 

Belly fat is tied in with stress levels as well. 

 

And it is well documented that high stress levels increase the risk for ALL disease, and especially the ones mentioned above.

 

 

 

As we stress, stress hormones are released into our system, overflowing and overwhelming it.

 

These stress hormones impact all areas of our body, and the belly is particularly sensitive to them.

 

When the belly reacts, irritable bowel symptoms abound as the belly churns with poisonous stress hormones.

 

Thus the alive nature of the belly fat syndrome. Sometimes flatter. Sometimes more pronounced.

 

So as you visualize a nice flat calm belly, also visualize peace of mind.

 

Visualize NO stress.

 

 

 

Breathe.

 

Relax.

 

Create a stress free buffer between yourself and the rest of the world.

 

TRY, as hard as you can, to live your life as stress free as possible by identifying that which stresses you out and eliminating it from your life!!

 

As you can see, belly fat is a complicated, interwoven and inflammatory, triple edged sword.

 

Lack of physical exercise is a contributing factor.

 

Mental stress and angst are contributing factors.

 

And lets face it, eating unhealthy, processed, empty calorie - fat laden food is a contributing factor.

 

Your own roll of belly fat is not necessarily going to singularly and directly lead to debilitating illness, but if a healthy diet and lifestyle are not sensibly employed, and the sooner the better, the size of the girth has been officially correlated medically to increasing many risk factors within the human body, and it just may do so to your own body eventually. 

Is that a risk you are willing to take??

  

And what exactly can we do about this diet wise??

 

Well, it just so happens, that the foods that we use here at Wholly Macro are anti-inflammatory, and cholesterol and saturated fat free.

 

Certain specific foods that we use here regularly, (you will see them appearing on almost every one of our menu's), go a step further, and actually break up fat, cholesterol, and their corresponding toxins, from where they live, deep inside our bodies and our bellies, and flush them from our system.

 

For example: Shiitake mushrooms, fresh and dried daikon, burdock root, and many grains, (such as hato mugi), cut fat, help to lower cholesterol and triglycerides, reduce weight and cellulite build-up, detoxify the liver, and refresh, cleanse, and calm the entire body.

 

 

  

Whenever we refer to foods that are "good for the stomach, spleen, and pancreas", such as yellow onion, rutabaga, cabbage, and butternut squash, you can be sure that they are helping to calm, quell, and anti-inflame the churning of belly related stress hormones.

 

And various herbs, spices, and essential oils are healing and therapeutic as well.

 

 

 

For example: Rose essential oil is intoxicating! Its stimulating and uplifting properties create a sense of well being and self confidence.

 

It is also highly romantic, as you can well imagine if you are not too stressed out to do so!!

 

Using certain therapeutic herbs, spices, and essential oils on your body, in your bath water, or in your food, can infuse you with anti stress hormone relief!

 

The above mentioned foods, and way more, are culinarily inspirational, fun and creative to cook with, taste delicious, make appealing visual presentations, AND, to top it all off, they are powerfully healing as well.

 

It just doesn't get much better!!

 

Wholly Macro's vision for us all, is eating and living so well, that unhealthy "alive" fat cannot dwell within our bodies.

 

Stress hormones can no longer blow up our bellies, and highly laden fatty foods can no longer stealthily deposit covert, nor openly displayed fats within them.

 

Well-being abounds, and all of our bellies are flat!!!

FENNEL ~ LEEK MISO VEGETABLE SOUP
SMALL___ LARGE___

A nice "garden variety" light miso vegetable soup, accentuated with the sweet and slightly licorice overtures of fresh fennel root, the deeply rooted yet light and lifting energetic quality of fresh leek and bok choy, the naturally diuretic and deeply cleansing quality of fresh daikon, some yellow onion, carrot, cauliflower florettes, and celery, and the always present and so important wakame sea vegetable and shiitake mushroom, intestinal flora promoting sweet yellow miso, and a garnish of high in natural chlorophyll fresh watercress, and deep purple iron rich dulse sea vegetable. 

SPANISH RICE AND RED QUINOA

Medium grain brown rice is cooked with the high Andes mountains Peruvian power packed, beautiful and naturally colored whole grain red quinoa, further mineralized with kombu sea vegetable, and tossed with tiny dices of green peas, flavorful corn, kabocha squash, and parsley, and a final crunch provided by trace mineral and omega three rich flavorful green pumpkin seeds.
BLACK BEAN BURRITOS WITH TOFU SOUR CR�ME

Delicious - gluten free sprouted grain and bean tortillas, are stuffed with iron rich black beans cooked with mineral rich kombu sea vegetable, and a salad like mixture of green cabbage, chinese cabbage, and red cabbage, then smothered in a marinara sauce of butternut squash, carrots, and yellow onions, topped with brown rice cheese, lightly baked, then garnished with fresh green chives, green olives, and a dollop of tofu "sour cr�me".
MACARONI AND "CHEESE"

A nice comforting dish, not usually thought of as healthy, but this version of it is!! Brown rice penne noodles are cooked al dente, then smothered in an high calcium, high protein, low fat and low cholesterol, alkalizing and digestion promoting, chunky and "cheesy" tofu, tahini, umeboshi plum, yellow miso, and rice milk "cheese" sauce, (whew!) laced throughout with chlorophyll rich fresh parsley and flavorful capers.  
FRENCH CUT GREEN BEAN KINPIRA ALMANDINE

Graceful french cut green beans, are lightly stir fried with blood cleansing and generally strengthening fresh burdock root, beautiful beta carotene rich julienne carrots, root vegetable mineral rich and strength providing good for the stomach and pancreas rutabaga, circulation stimulating fresh ginger root, a touch of flavorful toasted sesame oil and tamari, and a crunchy garnish of lightly roasted calcium rich almond slivers.  
 CHANTILLY LACE ROSE SCENTED VANILLA MOUSSE

High calcium almonds, and high protein, low fat and low cholesterol creamy rich silken tofu are blended with alkalizing and digestion strengthening kuzu root, high fiber agar agar sea vegetable, sesame tahini, the gentle and good for the pancreas natural sweetness of brown rice syrup, vanilla extract, and a subtle hint of edible and aromatic, high MHz rose essential oil. A really creamy and satisfying dessert that is garnished with edible rose buds, which are natural antioxidants and are full of high-energy good vibrations!!

Most foods used in the Wholly Macro kitchen are not packaged, but instead are bought in the produce section or in bulk. But as you know, cross contamination is always a possibility, especially with bulk items. And in the few packaged foods that we do use, such as nut butters for example, it is common to find warnings on the manufacturer label stating that the item was processed in a plant that handles tree nuts, soy, wheat, dairy, gluten, shellfish, and so on.  

 

Wholly Macro cannot be responsible for trace amounts of common food allergens that come from outside (packaged  or bulk items), and therefore end up occurring within our prepared foods. Please use your own discretion in determining if our food is appropriate for your consumption, especially if you have severe food allergies.

 

We are always available to clarify any of the ingredients that we use, and assist you in your weekly selections, but we cannot keep track of your food allergies, sensitivities, likes, dislikes or preferences.
