And that we are now writing 2014 after each date. That takes some getting used to, doesn't it?

 

We trust that all of you had wonderful holidays, that you weren't too naughty, and that you are all set to start a great New Year!

 How To Move Towards Health
 On The Spectrum Of Life

   

 

Have your New Years resolutions gotten to be a bit old and tired? Are they more or less the same each year?

 

Do you set your goals too high, creating unnecessary pressure for yourself?

 

There is nothing wrong with setting lofty goals. Nor with creating New Years resolutions if you so desire. The problem lies with expecting to achieve them all, without fail.

 

And with beating yourself up if you don't achieve them.

 

 

 

So, we here at Wholly Macro have decided to practice positive thinking, in combination with New Years resolutions.

 

 

 

And in doing so, we have found that life is like a spectrum.

 

We are either moving forward on the spectrum, towards health, or moving backwards on the spectrum, away from health.

 

We have also found, without a doubt, that through proper dietary and lifestyle habits, you can change the direction you, and your health, are moving on the spectrum of life.

 

 

 

 

You can move FORWARD. Towards health.

 

  

 

 

 

But just the same, if you practice improper dietary and lifestyle habits, you can reverse the direction you are moving on the spectrum, and move yourself away from optimum health, otherwise known as moving backward.

 

Fortunately for all of us living beings, the degree and ability in which we move towards or away from health can be changed and reversed fairly easily if we don't tip the scale too far.

 

 

 

Along these lines, Wholly Macro has compiled some formulations that have added to our own ongoing, year in and year out, New Years resolutions or not, healthy and positively oriented experiences within our own lives, and within the lives of many of our beloved clients and friends as well.  

 

We would like to share them with you below:

 

  • If you don't change much, you don't improve much. Small changes in diet and lifestyle have a small effect on preventing such health issues as heart disease and cancer, while big changes in diet AND lifestyle may actually prevent them altogether. As quoted by Dr. Dean Ornish in the Women's Health Initiative study, "The more people change their diet and lifestyle, the more improvement we see."  
  • Look at the degree and intensity that you must change your diet and lifestyle habits as part of the spectrum we spoke of above. If you are at high risk: If you are trying to reverse a serious disease, or prevent a reoccurrence of a serious disease, you will need to make the biggest changes in diet and lifestyle. 
  • If you merely want to drop a few pounds but are otherwise healthy, moderate changes are usually sufficient to begin. You can always increase the changes as needed to achieve your goals. 
  • Exercise more. And exercise more intelligently. Exercise in accordance with your own body's level of tolerance and need. 
  • Eat the best quality food possible. 
  • Quality is more important than quantity. 
  • Do not overeat regardless of quality. 
  • Love more. 
  • Meditate. 
  • Breathe. 
  • Think positive thoughts. 
  • Allow for healthy indulgences. Studies have shown that those who eat the healthiest diets (and live the happiest) are the ones who allow for intelligent indulgences.
  • It is not just about living longer, but also about living better. 
  • In order to feel better, look better, and gain health, always move in the healthful direction on the spectrum by making the proper diet and lifestyle choices daily.
 
 
Let's start the New Year out right by making small positive changes that are doable, make a difference, and move us in the right direction on the spectrum of health and life. 
 
That is Wholly Macro's New Years resolution, and we hope it will be yours too.

SHIITAKE NOODLE SOUP

Our comforting version of chicken noodle soup, minus the chicken of course: energetically relaxing cubes of pan seared tofu are floating in a richly flavored yellow miso, wakame sea vegetable, and shiitake mushroom broth, along with beta carotene rich carrots, cooling and naturally diuretic celery, pancreas healthy yellow onions, brown rice noodles, a few sprigs of fresh dill, and a garnish of chlorophyll rich fresh green parsley. 

BROWN RICE AND HATO MUGI

Balanced and nutritious medium grain brown rice, is cooked with hato mugi, a grain valued in the orient for its ability to calm the nervous system, cleanse the liver of fat and toxins, and beautify the skin. Powerfully mineralized kombu sea vegetable, vitamin E and omega fatty acid rich toasted sunflower seeds, and plenty of chlorophyll rich fresh green parsley, form this pure and simple mixture of the best for your health basic whole grains. Garnished with cellular cleansing sesame seed gomashio. 
TEMPEH AND VEGETABLE COBBLER

 This "main course" cobbler (not to be mistaken with a dessert cobbler) is filled with saut�ed protein rich and easily digestible tempeh, sweetly diced carrots, rutabaga, and parsnips, subtly pungent mineral rich turnips, green peas, pancreas healthy kabocha squash, and a delectable topping of rolled oats and almonds. 
MILLET WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE

Relaxing and alkalizing good for the stomach and pancreas whole grain millet is spiked with fresh yellow corn, and formed into polenta like cakes, then smothered in an iron rich sauce of black beans cooked with flavor enhancing and mineral rich kombu sea vegetable, and naturally sweet yellow onions, fresh ginger, and chlorophyll rich fresh green chives.

VEGETABLE SPRING ROLLS WITH UMEBOSHI GINGER GLAZE

Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, yellow onions, and celery, are stir fried with circulation promoting fresh ginger root, further livened up with enzyme rich fresh bean sprouts, wrapped and baked in a gluten free pastry, and glazed with a tart and alkalizing umeboshi plum, sweet and satisfying brown rice syrup, mustard, and shoyu glaze, to create the delicious and healthy non-fried Wholly Macro signature spring roll. Finished with fresh chives. 
 WHOLE OAT PUDDING WITH TOFU WHIP CR�ME

 Whole oats are full of power and whole grain vitality, and not eaten enough because everyone eats rolled "oatmeal". They work well to create this thick and rich porridge like dessert pudding, that incorporates kombu sea vegetable, sesame tahini, "amasake" naturally sweet fermented brown rice milk, brown rice syrup, pine nuts, cinnamon, currants, coconut, and vanilla, topped with intestinal strengthening, digestion promoting, and generally alkalizing kuzu, calcium rich almonds, and protein rich delicious tofu whipped cr�me.

Most foods used in the Wholly Macro kitchen are not packaged, but instead are bought in the produce section or in bulk. But as you know, cross contamination is always a possibility, especially with bulk items. And in the few packaged foods that we do use, such as nut butters for example, it is common to find warnings on the manufacturer label stating that the item was processed in a plant that handles tree nuts, soy, wheat, dairy, gluten, shellfish, and so on.  

 

Wholly Macro cannot be responsible for trace amounts of common food allergens that come from outside (packaged  or bulk items), and therefore end up occurring within our prepared foods. Please use your own discretion in determining if our food is appropriate for your consumption, especially if you have severe food allergies.

 

We are always available to clarify any of the ingredients that we use, and assist you in your weekly selections, but we cannot keep track of your food allergies, sensitivities, likes, dislikes or preferences.

You will leave the class feeling confident in knowing that you can now cook with unprocessed whole grains dried beans, a wide variety of healthy vegetables including sea vegetables, the proper amount of good quality sea salt, and so much more. Instruction is based on oriental medicine/macrobiotic principals. Start with a basic class  with soup, beans and grains or try a dessert class for a real treat! You choose, or we can choose, depending on your needs.
