Age Happens ~ But We Do Have Some Control

I read a book review recently, and it really resonated with me.

I have not actually read the book itself though. I know. I know. How can a book that I haven't read resonate with me?

Well, I'll tell you how.

My favorite magazine: AARP - The Magazine, had a short little book review about a book called "Counterclockwise" and I liked what it had to say.

You will have to get ahold of the AARP magazine to read the book review. But here is my interpretation of the review and book:

We age by two or more different processes.

This book breaks it down into two processes, which simplifies things greatly as there is undoubtedly a lot of "grey area" in between that isn't accounted for.

But simple is good.

The first aging process is what the author calls Primary Aging. Primary aging is described as the body aging itself. Naturally. Pretty much beyond our control.

Age happens.

Years go by.

Wear and tear occurs as the body machine is used.

Time, and our bodies, evolve, and at some point, parts begin to wear.

Not a terribly uplifting concept.

But the second aging process that the author describes is much more uplifting.

The second aging process is called Secondary Aging.

Secondary aging relates to everything other than the passing of time that impacts our bodies.

This is a subject that I speak of frequently in these newsletters.

Secondary aging is about choices.

Choices that we make all day every day about how we live, and how we age.

Some of the choices that we make greatly speed up our biological clocks.

And others preserve our various "parts" and keep us, and them, in a more youthful state.

Secondary aging is much more within our control!

Per the book review: Many aging experts now think that lifestyle accounts for close to 70 percent of how we age, and how quickly or slowly we age.

So, we are back to statistics.

If close to 70 percent of how we age is related to lifestyle, than the old familiar cop out of "it's genetic" just doesn't cut it!

Yes. Of course some things are genetic. There is no doubt.

But let's take the remaining 70 percent (and I suspect that figure is even greater than 70 percent), and live the healthiest lifestyle that we possibly can.

Having not read the book, I don't know what the author has to say about diet. But here is what I have to say about diet:

Diet alone, the food choices that we make day in and day out, have a huge impact on the health of our body and the way in which we age.

Proper nutrition in and of itself is a very powerful anti - ager.

Very often people will tell me, during the "true confessions" segment of a consultation, that they do just a little tiny bit of a "bad" thing every day. Such as eating chocolate, drinking a Starbucks latte, or smoking a cigarette.

My response to them is that the one bad thing, isolated every once in a while, is not the complete total end of the world.

But that same bad thing, done repeatedly, day in and day out, does eventually add up and impact the body in a negative way.

The bad thing can be unhealthy food, it can be negative thoughts, it can be repeated abusive interactions with another person, it can be stress, it can be skipping exercise.

All are lifestyle choices over which we have control.

Please take the time to turn every "bad" thing in your life into a positive, happy, good thing.

Make the right lifestyle choices for yourself, your families, and the planet.

Change your diet. Change your thoughts. Change your relationships. Meditate. Exercise.

And conveniently enough, you can start very easily by taking a look at our beautiful June 19, 2013 Wholly Macro Delivery Menu which you will find directly below.

It gives you the ability to make the very best choices that you can about what you are going to put into your body each and every day of your life.

The rest is up to you!

If a choice isn't contributing to health, it is probably contributing to disease.

Here's some feedback from a consultation client.....

" three years ago I discovered that I had breast cancer.  I had heard of Macrobiotics years ago. I didn't understand the concept but immediately I knew that that would be the route that I would pursue. But where to go and who to see was the question. Thank God for reading the macrobiotic newsletter. For in the newsletter there was  an article about Gayle Stolove. I just felt her strength and passion burn through the page that I was reading. I immediately made an appointment to see her and although I was still so frightened,  I felt so comfortable talking with Gayle. Gayle  guided me through the whole process. I thought that the macrobiotic way of life would be boring and just eating rice. Well, I love the foods that I eat and I just feel good about it all.  You see, after the surgery, you are sort of left on your own.You have to make your own decisions, etc. Everyone gives you different advice as what to eat, what to do, etc. Doctors don't understand what the patient is going through nor do they understand what kind of diet they should follow. I adopted Gayle as my guardian angel.  You can't find that with any nutritionist or doctor. I love receiving her weekly e-mailed newsletters. They are so full of wonderful knowledge and beautiful healthy recipes. Gayle is a remarkable human being. She truly cares for her clients and gives them her all, one hundred percent of the time. Gayle has been there and therefore she is so compassionate and dedicates her life to helping people like me....."     a cancer survivor
