                                                                                  March 2015

We are settling into our new offices in downtown Lexington, Kentucky (150 East High Street) and preparing for 4 Regional Festivals of Young Preachers and the 2016 National Festival of Young Preacher right here in Lexington, January 2-5, 2016. Registration opens for all of these events in April at www.academyofpreachers.net/festivals

ALL THINGS WERE TERRIFIC IN DALLAS

  • Dallas was our largest Festival ever, with 132 Young Preachers registered to preach.
  • The AoP Express traveled from Lexington to Dallas, picking up riders in Louisville and Nashville. We are planning another AoP Express next year, running from Dallas to Lexington! Who wants to sponsor that?
  • New features at the 2015 National Festival were grand successes and will be included in the 2016 National Festival in Lexington: Master Classes, Preaching Studio, Sponsors Fiesta, and a track for 29-35 year old First Parish Preachers.
  • Visit www.facebook.com/academyofpreachers for lots of pictures and www.youtube.com/academyofpreachers for all the videos.

Meet Monica Leslie, new AoP Office Administrator, left, with Wyndee Holbrook, Director of Programs, and Dwight A. Moody, President.

A Word From Dr. Moody

Dwight A. Moody, Executive Director

It is a wonderful time to be a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The world-wide interest in, and influence of, religion is high, some of that generated by the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

But church planting, renewal movements, justice ministries, organizational collaboration, and congregational vitality are all signs of hope in a world searching for meaning, integrity, and peace. In this cultural mash-up steps the gospel preacher with a word about sacrifice and an appeal to surrender.

No one spoke those words with more eloquence and impact than Fred Craddock, that great preacher and teacher of preachers who died last week, on March 6. His book on preaching, As One Without Authority, was one of two books with the most influence on the culture of preaching over the last 50 years (the other being Haddon Robinson's Biblical Preaching).

Just a few years ago, Craddock spoke to Peter Wallace of Day1 (in a recorded interview, now available on YouTube) about the surprising revival of preaching in recent decades: "Right now the feast is great," he said. "I welcome it."

So do we, and we are doing all we can to keep the banquet going: identifying, networking, and inspiring young preachers in the call to gospel preaching. It is glorious work, and we thank you for your partnership in this task.
