Keeping The Ship Afloat
By David Telfort, AoP '12
When you ask most entrepreneurs what made them strike out on their own and do something different, perhaps sell or rethink something already on the market, many times they say that it boils down to believing in themselves.
Cheer Section
By Tyler Best, AoP '12
As preachers, we may wish that a cheer section would randomly appear as we are preparing for our next sermon so that we feel encouraged to write down what we feel the Holy Spirit has led us to preach. Read More>
Hi, I'm a Prophet
By Jenny Marble, AoP '13
Have you ever introduced yourself as a preacher? On a recent flight I had a lengthy conversation with a fellow passenger about the art of preaching. I introduced myself as a preacher without realizing that I would open up the doors for "Questions of the Soul" in my own life. Read more>

AoP on The Road
By Dwight A. Moody
Wyndee Holbrook (Director of Programs) and I are taking to the highways and airways to promote the Academy of Preachers.
During February, she was on site in Evansville for the UE Festival of Young Preachers and I was on site in Nashville for the Trevecca Festival of Young Preachers. A total of 31 Young Preachers participated in these two Festivals; it was the third year for both. I also visited Vanderbilt Divinity School and spoke with American Baptist College. We are looking at Nashville for a Regional Festival in the near future.
Last week, Wyndee was in New York with an AoP donor and on site at Union Theological Seminary which is hosting the New York Regional Festival for Young Preachers, September 27-28.
This week, she and I are in Indianapolis where she will attend the annual Lilly Endowment conference for schools (like AoP Partners Perkins School of Theology, Candler School of Theology, and Trinity Lutheran Seminary) that host Youth Theology Programs. I have a series of meetings with (among others) the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Church, Indiana Network of Higher Education Ministries, and Central Christian Seminary. We are, of course, preparing for the 2014 National Festival of Young Preachers in Indianapolis next January.
Pittsburgh is next on the list and I am delighted to return to a place I love, having served as a pastor there for nine years. I am visiting representatives of the Franciscan University in Steubenville (just over the state line into West Virginia), Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Trinity School of Ministry, and Pittsburgh Reformed Seminary. There is interest in Pittsburgh of hosting a Regional Festival of Young Preachers.
And then Wyndee and I will travel to Dallas during the first week of April. We are looking at sites (hotels, schools, and churches) for our 2015 National Festival of Young Preachers. Already we have visits with Criswell College, Perkins School of Theology, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas Theological Seminary, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southwest Assembly of God University. Also on my list to visit is Founding Partner Messenger College, formerly of Joplin, Missouri.
This is a very busy travel time for us: making friends, seeking Partners, recruiting Young Preachers, finding Festival sites, and yes, raising money. Thank you for your support. This is wonderful and important work; I am delighted to be a part of it. Thanks be to God.
