Looking Back with Gratitude
Paul Sorensen, Executive Director
As another school year comes to a close, I am granted the space to reflect on the wonderful year we have had at the Greenwich Center for Hope & Renewal. While I am thankful that we were able to help countless individuals, marriages and families through our professional counseling, as well as develop new, innovative services like the Connection Course, perhaps I am most awestruck by the breadth and depth of our leadership.
It has been said, "The act of leadership is fundamentally about other and not self." As much as anywhere I have ever served, I have the great blessing of seeing this type of leadership at work at the Center for Hope & Renewal. In addition to all of our incredible financial partners, I would like to say a special thank you to the following leaders who have served with me this past school year:

Counselors Abroad
A Counselor Expanding Her Reach
Therapist Susan Gestal and husband, Pastor Bill Gestal, recently left home for Jos, Nigeria. Overflowing with teaching materials and food, their mission began... This is Susan's fourth visit to Jos. On this trip, Joan Wilson, a play therapist from Canada, joins her. Together, using principles of Theraplay, Susan and Joan will be working with upwards of 1,200 orphans. Their effort? To help these children, who have a long history of abuse, neglect and trauma, regain a normal life. Along with the aim of serving the children, Susan will be empowering the 100 caregivers with helpful tools and training to overcome Jos' daily challenges. Counselors in the News
The Greenwich Center for Hope and Renewal is well aware of the gifts of our therapists, and now we are even more excited that they are being recognized beyond our doors.

George Faller, EFT Trainer and Center Therapist, was featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams on December 3, 2010. George began his career in the NYPD and is now a Lieutenant with the NYFD. He was interviewed, not only because of his courage as a public servant, but because he is a source of strength for the men and women in uniform and their families. Paul Sorensen proves that living a life defined by his career as a marriage leader, as well as counseling with a faith-based lens, is worth emulating. Jake and Melissa Kircher of "Relevant Magazine" interviewed the Center's Executive Director in the piece, Distorting Love. In the article, Paul addresses a serious challenge for couples in a post-modern world, and he speaks to the benefits of connecting, loving and giving in our most precious relationships. Giving to the Center
Thank you to all who have generously given to the Center. We are wonderfully supported and blessed. As many of you know, we have launched a "Moving on Up" campaign to raise the $700,000 needed to cover operational and capital expenses for 2011 and 2012 - so that the Board of Directors can turn its attention to the implementation of the following strategic objectives for the Center's future:
- The creation and installation of a model for sustainable revenue based upon the careful combination of client fees and multi-church support
- The expansion of its existing donor base into a stable group of supporters
- The creation of a marketing program to support objectives one and two
