Gardening: Good for You!
|
Gardening can improve the beauty of your surroundings or put a bounty of vegetables on your plate. But it's also excellent therapy for your stressed-out mind. Below are ways that gardening enhances mental well-being.
Sowing Serenity
Gardeners often take up the hobby hoping that it will help them relax and unwind. And there's good reason to believe they'll reap this reward. In fact, gardening may be a more effective stress-buster than many other hobbies.Brain FoodStudies have shown that gardeners are more likely to eat their veggies than non-gardeners. It makes sense: Once they've invested the time and energy to grow a carrot or squash, they're more likely to actually eat it.

Meatless Mondays
|
Don't know what to do with all the basil you have growing in your Tower Garden? Idea: participate in Meatless Mondays and make this tasty casserole!
Walnut Basil Rice Casserole
2 cups brown basmati rice, cooked- 1 ½ cups walnuts
- ½ cup basil
- ½ medium onion
- 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
- 5 tbsp plant milk
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until a coarse consistency is achieved. Spoon the mixture into an oiled loaf pan or small casserole dish and bake at 325degrees for 50-60 minutes. Allow the casserole to cool for 5- 10 minutes before serving slices. Click here for printable copy.
Did you know? That the name "basil" is derived from the old Greek word basilikohn, which means "royal," reflecting that ancient culture's attitudes towards an herb that they held to be very noble and sacred.
