Don't let the light go out!
So many of watched, either as children or with our children, as the mature Peter, Paul and Mary sang this, surrounded by children, as a part of their Holiday special. It is a wonderful holiday memory for many of us, whatever our faith.
This week is Hanukkah, one of the 29 holidays celebrated by one of seven major religions between the beginning of November and January 15, centered around the winter solstice, the shortest, darkest day of the year for those of us in the northern hemisphere.
In light of the unfolding story around last week's tragedy in San Bernardino, lets take time to reflect on the many things we hold in common. Among those, the need to be reassured the darkness will not last, the light will return, and keep the hope this is not just calendar wise, but in a deeper way. These are truly dark days.
Let us keep the flame alive.

It's already shaping up to be a vibrant holiday season, lots to do and enjoy. We certainly hope to see you and your friends at our Holiday Friendraiser - see this flier for details. Political chat, holiday cheer, savvy friends, what could be more fun!
And if you're in a giving mood, won't you please consider a tax-deductible gift to the League. Next year promises to bring us an exceptionally packed ballot, and your League will be right on top of analyzing measures and giving you the information you'll need to cast an informed vote. Your gift to the League of Women Voters Education Fund will lay the foundation for this important work.
If you are reading this newsletter, we know you care deeply about our community. As the New Year approaches, why don't you think about getting more involved as a volunteer with our organization? We always have a need for helping hands, and among our positions on traffic, land use, education, the airport, housing and meeting basic human needs, there surely is an issue you feel strongly about. The League may be just the right place for you! Contact me at Pres@lwvsantamonica.org if you want to learn more.
So, whether you want to party, give gifts or get more involved, there's room in the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica for you.
We look forward to seeing you soon - and have a joyous Holiday Season!
