There is no reason to play coy. It is that time of the year. The time we ask you for a tax deductible donation to our education fund. This is a fund we cannot use for administrative costs. It doesn't pay for sending this news letter or mailing membership reminders. It cannot be used for advocacy. This fund pays for us to get local information and election related material out to you, our community.
While a lot of this can be done online, that doesn't reach everyone and some still prefer to have this kind of information on paper. One example, we provide League edited, non partisan information to everyone on the Meals on Wheels delivery list for every election. These are mostly people who cannot attend a community meeting and may only have the information from television advertising. Another is our speakers bureau who takes hard copies of election information when they speak at, for example, senior living facilities, a community that is less likely to be on line.
Our speakers bureau is available to you, the community. An understandable, to the best of our ability, presentation of the Pros and Cons of each ballot measure is a long time League service. We visit faith groups, service clubs, neighborhood groups and any of you who want a non-partisan, fact based, background on the issues before you go to the polls.
You have two elections coming up this year. While the June election is very important as you choose our candidates for President and other major offices--California will have a new senator for the first time in many years--there will be few measures on the ballot.
November is a different story! You may have as many as twenty (20) state ballot measures. We know of at least one County measure and there may be one or more locally. Each adds to the materials needed and our printing costs. The hard work of analyzing these measures is done by our volunteers, but the ability to share this information depends on you.
Why now? For you, it is an opportunity to plan your giving. This is only one of the many request you are receiving. For us, it allows for planning. As we consider our budget for the next fiscal year what we will be able to do depends on your donations. It's easy, just click on the red Donate button to your left. Or you can mail your check to the address at the bottom of the page.
Your neighbors and your community thank you, as does your League.
Regular calendar, state and national news, etc. returns next week.
