rainbow in the blue sky after the rain

What an unusual few days we have had.  Actual, measurable rain.  In Santa Monica.  In July.  Does anyone actually remember this happening before?

Rain, at any time, is a promise, but it feels so much more now when it is so needed.  We know a quarter of an inch or so is not going to end the drought, but it feels like a promise of more to come.

The rainbow is usually a promise of the sunshine to follow the storm, of better days/times ahead.  That can be more rainy days, more filled rain barrels, followed by more rainbows.

The promise of things to come is much of what the summer League work is about.  Your local board is meeting this coming weekend to plan the year ahead.  We know some of the areas--we have four studies that will have consensus meetings, we will continue our focus on climate change and what can be acted on at the local level, and we will continue and more actively encourage civil discourse in local discussions.  Where else would you, as a League member, like to see us focus our energy and activities?  Any ideas can be sent to the board here

League Urges Congress to Renew EITC and CTC

The League joined coalition partners on a letter to Congress urging the renewal of critical provisions of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and refundable Child Tax Credit (CTC) before they expire. The EITC and CTC are among the nation's strongest tools to help working families escape poverty and achieve greater self-sufficiency.

Tell Congress to Stand with the American People and Restore the VRA

Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a key part of the VRA leading to a full frontal attack on the voting rights of American citizens. Despite public outcry since the Supreme Court's decision, Congress has ignored widespread voter discrimination and the will of the American people. Every day that Congress fails to repair the VRA, Americans are in danger of increased barriers at the polls.Raise your voice and tell your Representative that now is the time to restore the VRA!
