Ann Williams presiding, Barbara Inatsugu as Parliamentarian and Karen Carrey, Secretary at Annual Meeting
|
A small, but engaged, group conducted the business of the League at the Annual Meeting on Saturday morning. A new board was elected with Ann Williams serving as President for one more year. Budget, by-laws changes (with a small modification to committee structure) and other business passed as proposed in the meeting kit. The office of Administrative Vice President is still open. This is an excellent opening for someone who really wants to understand the workings of the League.
Of interest to both members and non members is the adopted study of Community Choice Aggregation of electrical power. You will be hearing much more about this idea during the next few months.
After lunch David Martin, Director of Planning and Community Development for Santa Monica, presented a summary of the current status of the LUCE, area plans, zoning, etc. and answered many questions. The slides from the presentation will be made available to our members and those others attending soon.

LWVUS NEWS
| | Tell Your Representative to Redefine Coordination It's time to close the loopholes in our campaign contribution system and strengthen the rules prohibiting coordination between candidates and outside spending groups. Tell your Representative to cosponsor and support HR 425, the "Stop Super PAC -- Candidate Coordination Act" introduced by Representatives David Price and Chris Van Hollen. Money in Politics is one of two national studies that LWVSM will be conducting this fall. A suggested reading list for those who would like to actively participate in this study is available. Don't think anyone is expected to read everything! |
