  A time of changes...

Early spring flowers have faded and summer is on the way, Mother's Day is past and graduation is near, if not already past, for many of our students.  May is another month of changes and transitions.

So it is for League.  This next weekend is our LWVC State Convention in San Diego.  Time to elect a new board, approve a new budget and make plans for a new term of office.  A full report in two weeks.  (No newsletter May 19th)

As we will do in Santa Monica on June 20th.  For League members, your Convention Kit is in the mail this week.  Another reminder for those who just forgot to renew, do so on line before May 20th to be able to vote at the Annual Meeting.

This year's meeting will be at the Ken Edwards Center, June 20th at 10:00a.m.  Following the business meeting there is a sandwich and salad buffet and a presentation by David Martin, Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Santa Monica.  Reservations are needed and the lunch is only $20.00.  Guests are welcome, but they will not be allowed to vote.  Metered parking is available beneath the Center.  All members are encouraged to come and help us plan for a new League Year.
Legislative Agenda

Much of state effort at this time of the year is focused on following, supporting or opposing current state legislation.  This is far too much to include in these on-line updates, but, for those who wish to follow from our website click on Bill Status Report in the very top right hand corner.  This lists bills, current status, and often contains letters we have sent in support or opposition.  More here on legislative priorities.
WATCH: New Video on Improving Our Elections Systems

Earlier this week, we released a new video on the 5 ways to improve our elections systems. Leagues throughout the country are already working hard to make these reforms a reality! Some, like on line registration are already happening in California.  Others, like early voting, are still works in progress.
