O.K. It was yesterday , but this is being written over President's Day weekend. I often wonder about the compromise that brought us this long weekend. Were we more likely to take a minute and think about Washington or Lincoln when they each had their own day, not always on a Monday? We continue our celebration of the 95th birthday of the League, also this past weekend, and will off and on all year. This week we offer a quick quiz about a few ways we are continuing to "finish the fight" in the words of our first president, Carrie Chapman Catt.
Then Saturday, February 28th, is Lunch with the Mayor, Kevin McKeown. We have a new mayor, a new council, and, soon, a new city manager. Mayor McKeown will share his thoughts on what lies ahead. For your convenience you may now make reservations on line and pay in advance via Paypal.

GETTING INVOLVED
| | Nominating Committee Meeting
LWVSM is starting the process of nominating officers and board members for the 2015-16 League year. If there is someone you would like to nominate, and it can be you, contact our nominating committee chair Hannah Heineman. If joining the board sounds like too big a step, there are many off board positions available, jobs that can be tailored to fit your time commitment. The LWVC study this term is Public Higher Education: Access and Affordability. Background readings are becoming available and we need a committee of 3-5 to understand this material and present it to our membership next winter. If you are interested, contact our V.P. Program, Barbara Inatsugu. The LWVUS focus on The Structures of Democracy includes two studies, one on Money in Politics and one on the process of Amending the Constitution. Reading lists are now on line and we are ready to form committees. This process will finish in February of 2016. Again, if you are interested, contact Barbara. There are other opportunities for involvement from helping plan an event to working with our website or making reminder phone calls. Just let Ann Williams know where you think you would fit.
