September 16, 2014

It doesn't feel like mid-September, but Election Day is seven weeks from today and the last day to register or update your registration is two weeks earlier.  Don't put it off!

Before we get into that, last Saturday was our fall membership meeting with guest speaker Maria Carpenter, Director of Libraries for Santa Monica.  Libraries and League have a common mission of an informed community and it was good to learn all of the new services available through our libraries along with books and more books.  How blessed we are to have five public libraries in less than nine square miles.

One of the more intriguing thoughts was about "Third Places", not home, not work, but a third place to meet and talk and share ideas.  Libraries are one, parks, coffee shops, bars and a park bench on the Promenade are others. Ray Oldenburg has written about this and you can read more at Project for Public Spaces.
VOTE WITH THE LEAGUE
The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan, we never endorse candidates or parties.  However, we do support or oppose issues, in legislation or on the ballot, where we have studied and adopted positions

The League of Women Voters of California is supporting two propositions this fall, Propositions 2 and 47.  For more information go to our website.

LWV Los Angeles County is supporting Measure P

LWV Santa Monica is supporting Measures FS, H, HH and LC while opposing Measure D.  For more information on these issues, check our website
