April 1, 2014

Sandra Santiago (left), office manager for the City Manager's Office presenting certificates to the League and to our honorees. Continuing, from Sandra's left, honorees and past presidents Eula Fritz, Karen Carrey, Barbara Inatsugu, Ann Williams, Amy Bishop-Dunbar, Kate Vernez, Irene Zive (holding picture of Rose Kaufman who could not be there), and Joanne Leavitt.
No April Fool's jokes here!  The above picture is just one of those from our Women Who Shape Santa Santa Monica reception and 80th Birthday party last Thursday evening.  Attendance was wonderful, so much love and appreciation for our honorees; the view was lovely at sundown over the ocean, even if it was a bit overcast; food was both ample and excellent--all in all, a successful evening.  More pictures will be on our Facebook page.

Many thanks to Ocean House for hosting us.  We hope to do this again so, if you missed this year, look forward to March 2015.

Then Saturday morning a much smaller but very involved group met to come to consensus on the Agriculture Policy Update Study.  A very informative meeting.  Our report will be submitted to the national board to be considered along with those from other Leagues across the country.  The final report will be available in June after National Convention and we will post the link.

This doesn't mean we are done.  We are currently planning a Candidate Forum for the Board of Supervisors candidates in the Third District.  That will be May 3, 10:00am at the Edye Second Stage at the Broad Theater, 11th and Arizona,  Also making plans for our Annual Meeting June 14th and beginning to think about fall events and the November elections.  Stay tuned!

MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES
Spring is also the season of graduations.  Before our high school students graduate we like to offer them the opportunity to register to vote.  This requires some volunteers and coordination.  With more people we can reach more of the schools in the area.  If you would like to help with this project at any level contact theab@msn.com or call the League at 310-692-1494.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
State legislation is moving into committee hearings and they need to hear from us, therefore we will be reactivating our Action Alert emails.  These will go to members, as needed, when requested.  To be placed on this list email league@lwvsantamonica.org.

An even faster way to be alerted is to like us on Facebook.  Action alerts are posted there as they are received.
