IT'S SPRING

Both good news and bad news.  This marks the end of the rainy season for Southern California and this has been by far the driest in recent history.  But it does bring longer evenings and beautiful days until June Gloom arrives.

One way to spend a beautiful spring evening is to join us for Women Who Shape Santa Monica on Thursday evening, March 27th at 7:00p.m.  We are meeting on the 10th floor of Ocean House overlooking the beach and Pier just at sunset.  Have a glass of wine and nibbles, watch the sunset, then recognize four wonderful women, and share 80th Birthday cake with the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica.  A great way to spend a few hours on a spring evening.  A Flyer with more information is available here.

Spring also seems to be a very appropriate time for the consensus meeting of our national Agricultural Policy Update Study as spring vegetables are showing up in our local farmer's markets.  This is Saturday, March 29th at 10:00a.m. in the Community Room at the
Main Library.  Full details were in last week's Voter or are available here.  Background reading is available at Agriculture Update. The questions we will be discussing are here.

MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES
Spring is also the season of graduations.  Before our high school students graduate we like to offer them the opportunity to register to vote.  This requires some volunteers and coordination.  With more people we can reach more of the schools in the area.  If you would like to help with this project at any level contact theab@msn.com or call the League at 310-692-1494.

TAKE ACTION to Fight "Dark Money" in Elections! Tell Your Senator to Vote Yes on SB 27!

SB 27 (Correa) is a key bill to close the "dark money" loophole that allows nonprofits to contribute huge sums in California elections without disclosure. A final Senate floor vote on this bill should take place in the next few days.
