January 2014

Ann Williams, President, and Joanne Leavitt (above), along with Frank Gruber and Barbara Inatsugu, staffed the League table at the MLK Jr. Day Involvement Fair last Monday.

We want to thank all of the League friends who stopped by and especially the 15 new friends who joined our mailing list.

While saying thank you, we also want to recognize those who responded to our end of year mailer.  If your donation was $25 or six times that, it is appreciated and will help our outreach during a very busy upcoming year.

A special thank you to the two who made a $100 gift in celebration of Rose Kaufman's 100th birthday.  We, and Rose, thank you.

The first meeting of the Ag Policy Study Update is tonight, January 27 at 6:30pm.  To be on the ground floor of the study committee work, please contact Madeleine Moore today.  Stay tuned for more information.

Save the Date!  Prepare to Celebrate!  Our 80th Birthday Party and Women Who Shape Santa Monica reception is scheduled for March 27 at 7:00p.m.  Invitations coming soon!

Presidential Commission on Election Administration Issues Solid Recommendations

The Presidential Commission on Election Administration (PCEA) released their report to President Obama outlining how to improve the administration of America's elections. In a press release, the League said "there are many good recommendations in the PCEA report and others that we will need to look at more closely to examine the real impact on American voters." We look forward to working with the Commission to implement the best of these recommendations and improve how elections are run across this nation.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

As the state legislature is back in session, we will be reactivating our Action Alert emails.  These will go to members, as needed, when requested.  To be placed on this list email league@lwvsantamonica.org.

This will be the last call to renew your membership if you have not already.  Final names go to the national office on Friday and we prepare to print the roster.
Many thanks to the majority of you who renewed earlier!
