HEALTH CARE WORKSHOP

The Affordable Care Act, frequently called "Obamacare" has been much in the news recently. Many of the problems are national and do NOT apply to "Covered California", the California exchange plan. The League of Women Voters of Santa Monica with Westside Family Health Center is sponsoring a free workshop along with personalized enrollment assistance

The workshop is Saturday, November 9, 8-11a.m. in the Thelma Terry Center at Virginia Avenue Park.  Spanish translation and enrollment assistance will be available.

This workshop is open to the public, so pass the word to those who may still be questioning.  Think especially about younger adults, those turning 26 in the next year and going off their parents coverage or those who have been covered by a college policy and graduating in the spring.

DID YOU KNOW?

This spring the League of Women Voters of California completed a study of the Initiative and Referendum system in California. Now 102 years old, this still draws passionate debate.  Last Thursday the Public Policy Institute of California hosted an excellent panel discussion on the topic.  Moderated by Patt Morrison the panel was:
  • Willie Brown, former Speaker, California State Assembly
  • Gray Davis, former Governor, State of California
  • Ronald George, retired Chief Justice, State of California
