Campus Veterans Association to Host "Walk of Champions"
Event will honor fallen Iraq and Afghanistan veterans

The Campus Veterans Association will be hosting a ceremony this semester called "The Walk of Champions." This event is scheduled for 6:30pm on Veterans Day, November 11, 2013. This event will honor the 6740 fallen veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars by lighting luminaries for each of them on the Walk of Champions located on the north side of Bryant-Denny Stadium. There will be a roll call of all of the fallen Alabama heroes and speeches from various veterans and organizations. After the ceremony a banquet will be held with finger foods at the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity house.

CVA needs financial support to fund luminaries and community support in organizing the event. A minimum 200 volunteers will be needed to set up that day. Funds raised will go towards two new scholarships: one veteran specific scholarship, and another for dependents of veterans that were killed in action.

Donations or luminary purchases ($5 each) may be sent to: Box 870251, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487, Attention: Campus Veterans Association. Make checks payable to "Campus Veterans Association."  Tickets for the banquet will be sold at the Delta Kappa Epsilon house for $10.

UA ONE Campus chapter forms
New organization works toward student involvement in global issues.

Recently, the new UA chapter of ONE Campus participated in a petition directed at Congresswoman Terri Sewell. The petition included signatures from around the 7th congressional district of Alabama in support of the Electrify Africa Act of 2013, a comprehensive bill that would help bring electricity to 50 million people in sub-Saharan Africa for the first time while creating jobs in the US and many African countries.

ONE Campus is a nationwide effort to mobilize students to engage their communities on global issues of extreme poverty and preventable diseases by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives. This program is sponsored by the ONE campaign, a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization cofounded by Bono in 2004 to end global poverty.
