PTA LEADER UPDATE
A weekly bulletin from your Council PTA to keep you informed.

Greetings
What a terrific weekend at the Emerging Leaders Conference in Charlotte. One of the
highlights of the day was Guilford County's own Coach Russ McHenry from Northern Guilford Middle. Winner of awards from both GCC of PTAs and NCPTA, ambassador for Fuel Up to Play 60, Coach McHenry is inspiring teachers and leaders across our state to get students moving and healthy while having a whole lot of fun!

Thanks to the leaders from Guilford County who made it to the conference.  These experiences bring a new energy to your leadership, your PTA and will benefit the children at your school.

Mark your calendars for the NCPTA Leadership and Parent Engagement Conference on May 30-31.  Two days, with lots of workshops to choose from. There's no excuse not to attend when it's right next door in Winston Salem.

Take care,
Katie Sayani
GCC of PTAs
President
Reminders
  • Start working on AWARDS!  The deadline is March 13th.  Click here for everything you need to apply.  Remember our goal is for all our PTAs and PTSAs to apply for at least one award.
  • PTA Family Night at the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament is March 7. Deadline for tickets is February 21.  The elementary or middle school that sells the most tickets wins all the ACC mascots coming to your school! Presidents compete for $1000 from Food Lion.
  • Grant Opportunity:  National PTA Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enhancement Grant provides matching dollar funding to local PTAs to support in-school and after-school arts enhancement programs within their communities (up to $1000). PTAs serving at-risk student populations are particularly encouraged to apply. Deadline is March 14.

Elected Officials Go to School
Participating in this program will enlighten elected officials of our schools' needs.  Our elected representatives will better understand the conditions and the educational environment of the staff and students in your school. It is important that they see the total spectrum of your school. We believe the survival of effective public education in North Carolina is dependent upon adequate laws and resources that will provide quality education throughout our state. This experience should enhance elected officials' awareness and support as they make decisions regarding public education in North Carolina.  Included in the program guide is a number of suggested activities.
