PTA LEADER UPDATE
A weekly bulletin from your Council PTA to keep you informed.

Greetings
The council would like to thank everyone who attended this past week's Full Council Meeting. Congratulations to the thirteen PTAs who were awarded a S.P.I.C.E. Grant. Thank you also to our wonderful partners who spoke, Nora Lynn Finch from the ACC, Tara Sandercock from the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and Guilford County Schools Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green.

Well, January is certainly flying by and we hope everyone's year is going well.  We spend a lot of time communicating with leaders via phone and email.  We also want you to know that if your PTA is in need of a little (or a lot) of help, GCC of PTAs makes personal visits to our schools. So far we have visited with 16 PTA boards. With enough notice, we can do board development training, talk about PTA or assist with whatever your needs may be.  Please feel free to reach out at any time.

Last, and most exciting, we want to congratulate the following state-level winners from Guilford County PTAs for the Reflections 2015-2016 Theme Search:
  • Makayla Key from Aycock Middle  for "Family Is..."
  • Kema Leonard from Kernodle Middle for "Because We Care..."
Five student themes from our state have moved on to the final judging. We wish Makayla and Kema good luck at the National level.

Take care,
Katie Sayani
GCC of PTAs
President
Reminders
  • We encourage you to attend the State of Our Schools this week.  You will learn valuable information to take back to your PTA about how GCS is doing and where we still need to improve.
  • Look for an email on Tuesday with all the information you need for the upcoming PTA Family Night at the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament. We are excited about all the prizes that can be won by our local units.
  • Register for the Emerging Leaders Conference.  You don't want to miss this exciting, energizing event on February 8th in Charlotte.
  • Now is a great time to invite legislators to visit your PTA school and participate in the North Carolina PTA  Elected Officials Go to School programParticipating in this program will enlighten elected officials of your school's needs and help them better understand the conditions in the educational environment of the staff and students in your school. It is important that elected officials see the total spectrum of your school. Access the Online Guide.
Guilford Parent Academy
Guilford Parent Academy provides information and training on a variety of topics for parents, grandparents and family members caring for children and young people in Guilford County.

Is your PTA looking for a speaker for a specific topic?  GPA can help you with your needs, and best yet, your speakers will be FREE!  Download the workshop request form here.
