PTA LEADER UPDATE
A weekly bulletin from your Council PTA to keep you informed.

Greetings
Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful winter break and are energized to tackle the rest of the school year.

If you are like me, you have made a few resolutions for 2014.  Consider brainstorming with your PTA board to make at least one resolution as a group.  Maybe your board could vow to attend more training, or to recruit five members each, or to become more financially astute.

Whatever you decide, your efforts benefit children everyday, and for that our schools are blessed.  Thank you for all you do!

Take care,
Katie Sayani

President
Reminders
  • County Level Reflections is this week!  A winners list has been sent to local chairs.  Students and their families should be invited to Friday's ceremonies. Please see times and location below.
  • Send delegates to the Full Council Meeting and S.P.I.C.E. Grant Awards on January 14th.  We need your vote to amend our budget.  Superintendent Mo Green will speak, committees will give updates, plus learn more about PTA Family Night at the ACC. We will send agenda, amended budget and September minutes next Sunday.
  • Attend the State of Our Schools and hear an update on the Strategic Plan.  Click here for more information.
  • The next available training is the Emerging Leaders Conference sponsored by NCPTA on February 7th.  This is always a wonderful, pump-you-up conference and is only $10 per person. Try to send at least one person from your board.

Financial Matters
  • Take a good look at your budget.  Does it need to be revised?  Your income may be more or less than expected; maybe some committees did not need all their budgeted funds and it could be used elsewhere.
  • Remember that any amendments to the budget must be approved by your general membership.  According to the bylaws:
    • Section 11.4 - Annual budget. The officers shall prepare a proposed annual budget which, following approval by the board, shall be considered and adopted at the first general membership meeting of the fiscal year. Amendments to the budget may be considered and adopted at regular or special general membership meetings.
