Board Chooses Two Options for Simkins Elementary Boundary

Options 9 and 11 will be open for public comment online and at upcoming forum

Greensboro, N.C. - At its meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Education moved one step closer to finalizing the student assignment boundaries for George C. Simkins Elementary, which is currently under construction at 3511 E. Lee St. in Greensboro.

In November, the board held two public forums to hear feedback regarding three proposed boundary scenarios: Option 1, Option 5 and Option 9. On Tuesday, the board also discussed two additional options, Option 10 and Option 11. The board opted to select Options 9 and 11 and schedule a third public forum to gather comment on the two proposed boundaries.

The upcoming public forum will be scheduled before Jan. 14, allowing the board to vote on a final scenario at that meeting. The date, time and location will be shared when confirmed. The options currently under consideration can be found here . Feedback can also be sent to feedback@gcsnc.com.

Students from three schools could be impacted by the draft boundary options: Alamance Elementary, McLeansville Elementary and Sedalia Elementary schools. Simkins Elementary, which will serve approximately 700 students, is named for longtime Greensboro civil rights activist George C. Simkins Jr. Funding for the project comes from the 2008 School Bonds.

Think Toy Safety When Shopping for Toys This Holiday

Are you gearing up for the holiday and wondering what to give the kids? If your holiday shopping list includes toys, check out toy safety tips  from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Choosing age-appropriate toys and following safety labels can help prevent toy-related injuries. Also, when purchasing toys, consider the pets you may have in your home. Toys with small parts can become choking hazards for dogs or cats.
