Guilford Parent Academy
From Boys to Men

Did you know?

African-American males make up almost 21 percent of students in GCS, but make up 48.4 percent of students who receive classroom discipline referrals.

In 2013, GCS had a record-breaking year with 86.2 percent of students graduating on time, but only 78.4 percent of African-American males graduated on time.

We know we can do better! As part of the district's African-American Male Initiative, GCS is hosting a special workshop for parents, grandparents, guardians--anyone who is part of a young African-American man's life.

"From Boys to Men: Parents Helping Their African-American Sons Achieve Educational Excellence" is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Join us to learn how you can help ensure your child excels in the classroom and beyond. Topics include eligibility for AP/Honors enrollment, how to recognize if your child is Academically Gifted,  sports eligibility, service-learning benefits, accessing cumulative records and the basics of education at all levels: elementary, middle and high school.

A light breakfast will be served.
