Greetings From GCC of PTAs
On behalf of our board, I would like to welcome our Guilford County community to the 2013-14 school year. Now, more than ever, our children need a strong voice and our teachers need to know they are essential. As we learn to do more with less, remaining positive and collaborating together will ensure our students continue to receive the best education in healthy environments.
Henry Ford said, "Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success." Together we can make a difference for all our children.
Let's have an awesome year together!
Katie Sayani

S.P.I.C.E. Grants 2013-14
Strengthening Parent Involvement in Children's Education

S.P.I.C.E. grew out of a community planning effort by the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro to help families and communities improve education. Research shows that children perform better in school if their parents are involved. Jointly recognizing the significant impact of parent involvement, the two organizations have joined together to promote the National PTA Standards for Family-School Partnerships. In an effort to make submitting easier for our local PTA units, the grant submission process will be online this year. The deadline for Online Submissions is Friday, October 18th by 11:59pm. Requests for Funding Each local PTA unit may request up to $1,000 for creative projects that: - Involve parents to reflect the diversity of the children in the school
- Support parent involvement in learning activities with children at home and in the community
- Create more options for parents to participate in school and PTA activities
- Help schools welcome all families and overcome barriers to parent involvement
- Connect parents, schools and community in support of student achievement
- Promote the National PTA Standards
ONLINE SUBMISSION WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE SOON |

Friday, Sept. 6, 2013
1 - 2 p.m.
PTA members care deeply about policies impacting children, and PTAs are uniquely positioned to share information and engage elected officials in conversations about current issues and policies. The ability and power to provide a strong unified voice for children is one of the most cherished aspects of PTA.
PTAs can and should advocate but are prohibited as 501(c)(3) organizations from engaging in political activities or endorsing political candidates.
Join Ashley Perkinson, NCPTA attorney and lobbyist, September 6 at 1 p.m. for a webinar discussion on advocacy tips and nonprofit guidelines.
