President's Message
from
Katie Sayani
|
Greetings,
Together we will do great things. This will be my tenth year involved in PTA and I am looking forward to an amazing year meeting members, visiting schools and serving the over 72, 000 children in Guilford County Schools. I am humbled to serve as your leader.
As we come to the end of the school year, this is a time for transitions. Some will take a much deserved break, while for others the planning begins and excitement builds for the 2013-14 school year. Take time to share closing thoughts, good and bad, with new leaders. Pass on important materials and information to help next school year be as successful as possible to benefit all children.
PTA is only as strong as its members. GCC of PTAs is committed to supporting our local units, helping grow membership, and collaborating and communicating with our community in order to help all children of Guilford County reach their potential.
Wes Moore said, "The expectations that others place on us help us form our expectations of ourselves." I have high expectations for all of you, as I am sure you have of me. But most important, we must remember that our children have high expectations for bright futures and they expect us to ensure this to come true. Children need a bigger voice than themselves, so we must be loud to make sure each child receives the education, health, and safety they absolutely deserve. Together we can exceed all of our expectations.
I wish everyone a safe and rejuvenating summer. Take time to reenergize, reflect and set goals, but most of all enjoy your families.
Sincerely,
Katie Sayani

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES GRANT AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL UNITS
| |
This fall's Healthy Lifestyles Energy Balance 101 Grant focuses on an everyday healthy lifestyle practice known as energy balance. Energy balance is simply finding a balance between the calories we consume and the calories we burn.
National PTA will award 25 Healthy Lifestyles Energy Balance 101 Grants of $2,000 each to local PTAs for family education events targeting grades PreK-5 (or schools with grades K-5 such as Pre-K- 8/Pre-K-12). Title I schools are strongly encouraged to apply. These grants are funded by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, which through its Together Counts™ program and 200+ members and partners, seeks to help significantly reduce childhood obesity rates by 2015.

We Want To Hear From You

Does your PTA have male volunteers? If so, we want to hear from you. GCC of PTAs is interested in some of the things you are doing. Over the summer, we plan to establish a database of names of our male volunteers. This database will allow the council to better support your efforts in increasing and maintaining the all important male involvement.
Please email your school name along with the names of your male volunteers to the email below.

SCHOUT OUT!
(School Shout Out)
|
What is a Schout Out?
A Schout Out or (School Shout Out) is a way for us to recognize any PTA that has members who attend any trainings, leadership development opportunities, workshops or conferences that are hosted or sponsored by the GCC of PTAs or our partners.
So, if your school has participated in any event that will further enhance your effectiveness in accomplishing our mission of guiding, advocating, collaborating and empowering then please let us know so that we may give you a "Schout Out" in future Council Connections.
This months
"Schout Outs"
go to all of the PTAs that were honored at the Awards Ceremony on May 9. Each of you have done a great job and its time to enjoy your summer, rejuvenate, and reenergize.
