Good morning! It been an exciting few months, and not just at the World Cup. Recently aquaculture has garnered increased attention in the national and international spotlight. Many of these highlights share a common theme in recognizing aquaculture as part of the solution to critical issues such as increasing global and domestic supplies of seafood, improving food security, promoting human health and nutrition, and bolstering coastal economies.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you the progress we've made in collaboration with our partners on both the science and management of aquaculture.

The National Strategic Plan for Federal Aquaculture Research

In June the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released the Strategic Plan for Federal Aquaculture Research. The Plan was a multi-year collaboration developed by the Interagency Working Group on Aquaculture (IWG-A), formerly called the Joint Subcommittee on Aquaculture in which NOAA Fisheries and the National Sea Grant Program play integral roles. The IWG-A developed the Plan to increase overall effectiveness of Federal aquaculture research, technology transfer and assistance programs.

You can read more about the plan and access the document in the head of NOAA Fisheries Eileen Sobeck's Leadership Message.
