InREA Hosts Solar Tour and Open House

In Support of the World's Largest Grassroots Solar Event

Homes, Schools & Businesses Nationwide Participating In 19th Annual ASES National Solar Tour To Help Central Indiana Residents Cut Energy Costs, Enjoy Tax Credits & Assert Their Energy Independence

Indianapolis, IN (Oct. 1, 2014) Indiana Renewable Energy Association joins the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and hundreds of solar-savvy installers and grassroots organizations throughout America to showcase thousands of solar-powered homes, schools and businesses both in central Indiana and across North America  for the 19th Annual National Solar Tour, the world's largest grassroots solar event.

Two events are slated as follows:

Indy East Solar Tour on Sat., Oct. 4th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm;

and the Westfield Solar Open House on Sun., Oct. 5 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

 The two events will showcase the solar technologies your neighbors are using to 1) drastically reduce monthly energy bills, 2) reduce harmful carbon emissions, and 3) enjoy rich tax credits and cash incentives as they improve their property values.

 "The ASES National Solar Tour shows families and businesses real-life examples of how their neighbors are harnessing free energy from the sun to generate electricity, warm and cool their homes, heat water and slash monthly utility bills," Laura Ann Arnold said.

On Sat., Oct. 4th, InREAwill hold solar tours of five Indianapolis homes, a church and apartment building on the eastside of Indianapolis.  Participants will be able to hear the stories about "why I went solar" from the home and building owners. In some cases, the solar installers will also be on hand to answer technical questions. Solar Tour Sponsors Rectify, LLC and Johnson-Melloh Solutions who installed the solar PV systems will be on-hand.

Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) who is also a sponsor of the Indy East Solar Tour will have information available and to answer questions on the "steps to go solar".

The Indy East Solar Tour will kick-off at the Englewood Christian Church located at 57 N. Rural Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Maps and information about the homes and apartment building will be available.

On Sun., Oct. 5, InREA will hold a Solar Open House in Westfield from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. "We installed a 7.7 KW solar PV system on our home this year and we already have an 8 year old solar water heating system." Said Westfield homeowner Jim Mahoney. "Our solar hot water system is used to supply radiant floor heat for the detached garage/shop. We also incorporated passive solar design in our home."

"The Westfield Solar Open House provides a look at three different types of solar energy systems: solar electric, solar thermal and passive solar." Said Arnold. "This is really a very unique opportunity to see all three solar applications in one location."

The self-guided tours in recent years attracted more than 150,000 people in 49 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. Tours afford participants the direct perspectives of homeowners and installers about the costs, processes and economic and environmental benefits of going solar. The tours also give Hoosiers a glimpse at how a variety of solar systems look in and around structures with different architectural styles.

"The National Solar Tour demonstrates an array of practical and economical solutions available right here, right now. It encourages neighborhood conversations addressing the growing need for clean energy," said ASES Executive Director, Carly Rixham.
