Valparaiso University Solar Furnace

The Fites Center includes two suites of labs that are designed to support advanced student research. One suite has labs for Materials Science, Materials Engineering, and Structural Engineering. The second suite is the Energy Systems Suite, which includes the Engine Test Cell, Mechanical Measurements Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, and Small Engines Lab.  Additionally, the Fites Center includes senior design project workspace that mimics actual workplace environments.

The James S. Markiewicz Solar Energy Research Facility will put Valparaiso University on the cutting edge of solar energy research - research that will be conducted by both Valpo faculty and undergraduates. At the heart of the research facility is a solar furnace. Valparaiso University is one of only five research facilities in the U.S. and the only undergraduate institute in the U.S. with a solar furnace.  Valpo engineering students were heavily involved in the design, manufacture, and assembly of the solar furnace and future Valpo students will use the facility to perform research in the exciting area of solar thermal electrochemistry.

Good Help is hard to find!

If you are interested in furthering the work of renewable Energy in Indiana, consider helping on an INREA committee.  INREA is a volunteer organization, which means the more of us who are involved the more we can accomplish.

For details on how to get involved, send inquiries to [email protected] or join us at the tour on 2/23.

Thank you for whatever help you can provide!
