Oklahoma City Tornado Relief

As so many people in Oklahoma City grapple the staggering breadth of the recent tornado's devastation, the thoughts and prayers of all of us at Congregation Torat Emet go out to the families, communities and towns that have been so severely affected.

While no one can predict how long it will take to get back to normal, we do know that significant help and strong national and community support will be needed to rebuild and to heal.

We are asking all of our congregants to please make every effort to donate to at least one of the relief funds listed below, or to make a donation directly to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund at the synagogue.

o The American Red Cross - www.redcross.org

o The Orthodox Union - http://www.ou.org/giving/natural-disaster-fund/#.UZ5x67WddAU

o The Jewish Federations of North America - https://securefedweb.jewishfederations.org/page/contribute/oklahoma-city-tornado

May God watch over those in need, and may He bless those extending a helping hand.

ISRAEL COMMITTEE
Israel Update
ISRAEL UPDATE May 24, 2013
Senate: U.S. must back Israel in case of Iran strike The U.S. Senate unanimously pledged to stand by Israel should it take military action in its own legitimate defense against the nuclear threat from Iran. On Wednesday, the Senate voted 99-0 on Resolution S. R. 65. The resolution specifies that the United States should provide diplomatic, military, and economic support to Israel "in its defense of its territory, people, and existence." Earlier Wednesday, a U.S. House of Representatives committee approved legislation seeking to impose tighter sanctions on Iran. The "Nuclear Iran Prevention Act of 2013" passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee by a unanimous voice vote. With already 340 co-sponsors, a vote by the full 435-member chamber is likely within the coming weeks. Sponsors called this measure the strongest sanctions package ever against Iran's nuclear program.
Our synagogue partners with AIPAC, America's pro-Israel lobby, in educating our community on issues affecting the U.S.-Israel relationship.  We encourage you to learn more by contacting AIPAC at (202) 639-5200 or by visiting www.aipac.org.
