Commemorating the 20th Yahrtzeit of The Rav -
Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, ZT"L
Live Broadcast
Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Main Sanctuary, Congregation Torat Emet
In honor of his 20th Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, Congregation Torat Emet will host a live broadcast of Yeshiva University's tribute to the Rav.
This webcast presentation will take place in lieu of Rabbi Unterman's Tefilla class
Rabbi Yosef Dov Solovetichik
The Rav was one of the greatest rabbinic scholars and Jewish philosophers of the 20th century. He was one of the principal leaders of Modern Orthodoxy in America during his time, and his writings continue to shape Jewish thought today.
The Rav was born into one of the greatest rabbinic families of the last 200 years in 1903. He pioneered the Maimonides School in Boston in 1932, and he became the head of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University in 1941, where he taught until 1986.
His seminal works include Lonely Man of Faith, Halakhic Man, and Uvekashtem Misham. Many of his writings continue to be published today, 20 years after his death, and the world of Modern Orthodoxy still relies on the Rav's thought and the ongoing leadership of his many students.

Bnei Akiva Snif
Grades 2-5
| |
Bnei Akiva Snif

April 13, 6:45pm
In concert with its association to the religious Zionist youth movement, MSY Bnei Akiva was founded by our youth, and is entirely motivated, planned, and run by our youth.
In addition to promoting the values of Am Yisrael (the nation of Israel), Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel), and Torat Yisrael (the Torah of Israel), Bnei Akiva Snif provides opportunities for our high school students to demonstrate and develop leadership skills that will last them a lifetime.
Snif takes place every other week for children in Grades 2 - 5 before mincha on Shabbat afternoon. It is led by high school madrichim under adult supervision.

|
Shabbat Shmuze
| |
Middle School Shabbat Shmuze

April 13, 6:45pm
Our Junior MSY students in Grades 6 - 8, are invited every other week (corresponding to Bnei Akiva Snif) into the home of Rivkie and Rabbi Effy Unterman on Shabbat afternoon before mincha. They enjoy an assortment of snacks, have fun with the Untermans, and discuss questions and Torah insights in an informal and openminded setting that is particularly well suited to children of this age group. Our students have tremendously benefited from developing a relationship with the Untermans, and they value the time they spend together on Shabbat afternoon.
Shabbat Shmuze takes place at the Unterman home, 2513 East Main Street. Enter from back alley. A realtor's lockbox located to the right of the Untermans' door has the key to get into the building. Please contact the shul or Rabbi Unterman directly, or ask someone over Shabbat for the code.
