Week of July 15
This hardy, upright selection sports light green leaves and deep rose flowers which age to a beautiful bronze.  Tall, upright sedums form substantial clumps of foliage which can be substituted for shrubs in landscape.  Their stout, sturdy stems support the massive flower heads which develop in summer and burst into bloom mid-summer to late fall.  If left standing, they provide winter interest and food for birds.

Botanical Name: 'Herbsfreude'. Full Sun. Height: 24 inches.  Spread: 18-24 inches. Blooms mid to late summer into fall. Attracts butterflies - rabbit resistant.

After all the spring rains, most of Iowa is now suffering from a lack of rainfall.  Your plants need the equivalent of an inch of rain per week in order to flourish.  This is especially true for plants in their first or second growing season.

Japanese Beetle Information
Japanese Beetle We are starting to get calls about Japanese Beetles.  These insects can cause a large amount of damage in a very short amount of time (sometimes overnight), now is the time to start monitoring the plants in your landscape.
