Kelly Marshall's "Best of the Best"

Saturday, July 12, 2014 10:00 am - 11:00 am

***This program is free, but please RSVP to  info@markhamarboretum.org to help us plan for seating.

Our favorite garden designer, the talented and very knowledgeable Kelly Marshall, will be giving a talk on the super stars of the California garden world.  Kelly will talk about plants that are new-to-the-trade, as well as some proven performers; these have it all - drought tolerant, super tough, super beautiful, super garden friendly.

Okay, okay: why don't we just tell you what they are??  Well, since we can't keep a secret for more than a millisecond, here are two of the plants that Kelly will be talking about:

The lovely Buddleia 'Lo & Behold'

Dwarf Butterfly Bush
Honey, I shrunk the bush!

This dwarf Butterfly Bush is a wonderful find. It has all the fragrance and butterfly appeal of its bigger relatives in a small, easy to maintain package.  When all the blooms of spring have faded, this lovely plant provides continuous color from mid-summer to mid-fall.  Great for borders and perennial beds.

      The Elegant  Leucadendron 'Ebony'

Recipe for an intriguing landscape... add an exotic accent
Now that you've added cheerful blooms to your summer, perhaps you're wanting something dark and mysterious? From South Africa, this handsome Leucadendron has evergreen foliage that's almost black in color, with burgundy flowers in the winter and spring. Sun loving and drought tolerant, it looks particularly spectacular grouped in plants with lime green foliage.

It's hard to think what will beat these lovely stars, but come to our talk the Saturday after next, and you'll find out!

Don't forget to RSVP to info@markhamarboretum.org to let us know you are coming!
