The Beautiful and Hardy Wild Onion
|
A Plant that Can Work with Clay -
Allium Unifolium is a native California bulb and perennial herb. This wild onion's leaves form a 1'x2' mound with half inch lavender/pink flowers from May-July. A tough little plant, the allium thrives in clay soil, is drought tolerant, deer resistant and can take even more frost than we had this year. Plant in full sun and allow to go dry when dormant. Hardy to <0F.

It has lovely bronze leaves and profuse cerise blooms. Give it full sun to partial shade with average to low water. It's a great plant for rock gardens and hanging baskets, and it loves to climb. Blooms summer to fall and is hardy to 20F.

How Much Do You Really Know?
Kathy Echols Presentation: "Garden Myths"
10:00 am
Gardening has always been partly a process of passing on wisdom from gardener to gardener - but maybe some of our common beliefs are just not scientifically true.
We are extremely pleased to have Ms. Echols,
an internationally recognized plant breeder and propagator, share some revealed truths about garden practices. Ms. Echols is the past president of the International Plant Propagators Society and was an instructor for 20 years in the horticulture department at Diablo Valley College (DVC). Since retiring from DVC several years ago, she has concentrated on consulting and speaking.
