Your gift of education means the world to girls in Haiti.  Two recent scholarship recipients express their gratitude to you (translated from French):

I am 12 year old Mikerdie, a 7th grade student at John XXIII school. I did my primary studies at the cole Saint- Gabriel. Mercy Beyond Borders is my passion and I love it a lot because it helps us to study and advance in education, social skills and leadership. Many thanks to Sr Marilyn and all the other people I do not know. I ask God a lot more health and energy for all the donors so that many more girls can benefit from this program.

I 'm Roseline, 16 years of age. I live with my grandmother. Despite her old age she takes care of me and my little brothers and sisters. I love this program because it helps me relieve my grandmother and pay my education. Now I 'm in 7th grade, thanks completely to Mercy Beyond Borders. I thank you for your help and your support of Haitian girls. God bless and protect us in this mission.

These young women remain in school only because of your generosity. What a gift !

The Beauty of Haiti

Haiti housetops
Rooftop View

Some vistas in Haiti, such as you see in this photo taken from the roof of the Mercy Beyond Borders Scholars' Lodge in Gros Morne, conjure the old French colonial era: stately architecture, long faded and now dilapidated. But other pictures, such as this one below taken during December's annual Scholars' Leadership Week, communicate the vibrant energy of Haitian youth. Mercy Beyond Borders confidently invests in Haitian women and girls. They are the real beauty-and hope-of their nation.

Free to be, Free to Learn

Most of us spent our childhood with balls or jump-ropes or books. Most Haitian children spend their childhood with jerry-cans of water, cooking pots, and brooms, either at home or working in someone else's home. A Mercy Beyond Borders Scholarship is a ticket out of this confinement. It's a window into a bigger world, with many more possibilities: the world that education opens up. One of the first blessings that Scholars receive is inclusion in our annual Mercy Beyond Borders Leadership Week. No house work, farm work, or homework. Just five days of interactive learning-- leadership games, computer skills, and team-building, balanced nicely by time at the beach and in the surf.

You are gifting these young Scholars with JOY as well as with HOPE for a better future. Thank you!

Ambassadors of the Month

                Young Philanthropists

Charlie, age 9, and his brother Bennett, age 6, gave 100% of their monthly allowance to Mercy Beyond Borders this Christmas to support a South Sudanese girl's education. Yes, you read correctly: 100% of their income! Like the widow's mite, their $20 donation truly looms large in our eyes!  Imagine: 100% of their income! Imagine: young hearts already stretching around the world.  Imagine: all of us following their example... Mercy Beyond Borders salutes you, Charlie and Bennett, and we honor your parents for nurturing such amazing generosity.
