Monthly Newsletter
May 2015
Greetings!

After our tough winter in the NorthEast, May is so refreshing with flowers abloom and warm sunny days.  This is a good time to  go for a walk, eat lunch on a restaurant patio, work in the garden, or do some window shopping in town, or if it's rainy finish up your 'spring cleaning'.  I chose this quote from Edwin Way Teale "The world's favorite season is the spring.  All things seem possible in May."

Positively Speaking

There Are No Coincidences

How many times do things happen to you at just the right time and it appears to be a coincidence? I believe there are no coincidences and that those things are the miracles in life. I especially pay attention to how things happen, specifically what the chain of events were that brought them to me. Each of the those events are the pieces of the puzzle that present themselves and form the miracle. When I look back, I see that what occurred to make the coincidence or miracle happen, was really perfect and that if I had tried to figure it out on my own, I couldn't have done it as well or better.

Here is one my own "there are no coincidences" stories. Several years ago, I was in the final stages of producing a television documentary on Positive Aging in Winston-Salem. We were going to end the documentary with an older gentleman who was featured in the closing segment. He had brought photographs he thought would be perfect for the ending. When we disagreed about several of his

selections, he became difficult. He finally stormed out of the studio, leaving me without a completed documentary and without very much time to find available talent.

I sat in the conference room wondering how on earth I was going to fix the broken ending, when the receptionist entered the conference room unannounced. She was carrying a package addressed to me. I was flabbergasted. I only worked in the studio once a month. Any mail addressed to me usually laid in my in-box, awaiting my arrival. This particular package arrived and was delivered to me the day I was there. The package contained a national press release from Houston, Texas announcing a senior sports classics competition. One of the people featured was the 102-year-old golfer named Harley Potter who was from Winston Salem. I'm sitting in a conference room at the Fox TV affiliate in Winston-Salem approximately twenty minutes away from an octogenarian who would be the perfect closing story for my documentary. I called his 75 year-old daughter and she arranged for me to film him at the local club where he played golf almost daily. That piece turned out to be the best part of the documentary."

We've all experienced those "coincidences" when someone we have just been thinking about calls us, we bump into the person we really needed to talk to, we find the right thing at exactly the right time, or we avoid a mishap by seconds. I believe that those are miracles, and that we can create them by our thoughts. If you really want something, ask for it, pray for it, truly believe you will receive it, and then wait for something to happen. You don't have to actively work at it, because something greater than you is at work here. I feel that something is God. Give thanks for those little miracles when they happen because they open the door to the big miracles.

Sincerely,

Patricia

Change Your Mind, Change Your Brain a new book
by Anne Marie Ludovici

Most books tell you what you need to do to change your health behavior. Change Your Mind, Change Your Health: 7 Ways To Harness The Power Of Your Brain To Achieve True Well- Being, teaches you how to actually initiate change and sustain the change over time. Based on the TTM method of psychotherapy, and known to psychologists and medical professionals worldwide, Ludovici now makes this information available to the general public with proven, evidence-based behavioral tools for "achieving a self-assured and sustainable sense of health and well-being in the face of all obstacles or challenges."  A daring promise, to be sure, considering that right now only 6% of U.S. adults follow public health recommendations about physical activity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, fruit and vegetable consumption, and dietary fat intake. Change Your Mind, Change Your Health reveals how monitoring and changing your thoughts can change your health, the relationship between self-confidence and mastery-and how to gain both and how to leverage the powerful strategies from sports psychology to you charged and ready for action.
