April 2014

April is a favorite month for me. It is my birth month and a month in Spring. We begin to become anxious to get outdoors and open up some windows to let the light spring breeze in our homes. Also, it's time to pull down the bikes from the attic and dust them off, oil the chains and unbury the bike helmets, dig out the dollar blades from the boxes marked summer stuff, and lace up the walking shoes. It is time to open your heart to spring.

"Patricia Raskin Positive Living" on VoiceAmerica.com

Daniel Gottlieb Tune in as Patricia interviews Dr. Daniel Gottlieb, a practicing psychologist and family therapist, is the host of "Voices in the Family" on WHYY, Philadelphia's National Public Radio affiliate. From 1993 until 2008, he wrote a highly regarded column for the Philadelphia Inquirer called "Inside Out," reflecting his perspective on world events and the ways we experience them. He is the author of five books, including the bestselling Letters to Sam and Learning from the Heart, which have been translated into eighteen languages.  He is author of the new book, The Wisdom We're Born With. In addition to drawing on stories about his patients, he also offers his own experience as the survivor of a traumatic car accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down more than thirty years ago.  With his unique wisdom, openness and honesty, he lets readers know they are not alone in their struggle no matter how deep their suffering may be.  He offers a path back to a perspective that every infant intuitively understands, but one that is often lost on the road to adulthood.

Positive Business Radio Show
with Patricia Raskin and Lynda Adams
Happy Anniversary 'Positive Business'
Celebrating the Show's fourth year with a new co-host
Fridays 3-5pm ET on AM790 Providence

Positive Business with Patricia Raskin began its fourth year on AM790 radio January 3rd with a new, full-time weekly co-host, Lynda Adams.

"This is an exciting time for me and the show", Patricia Raskin responded when asked why the change from the previous format of multiple guest co-hosts. "That was a great experience but as the show enters its fourth year, I felt it was time to make some changes to reflect how much it has grown and matured. Bringing Lynda Adams on as my permanent co-host is an opportunity to take the show to another level. As an entrepreneur and small business owner, as well as having an extensive sales background, her experiences bring a broad perspective on both challenges and opportunities within the business community"

The two-hour show airs every Friday from 3-5PM on AM790, WPRV Talk and Business, an affiliate of the local Cumulus 5-station group. While always focusing on the positive, the show highlights entrepreneurs, small business owners, authors, CEOs, business and leadership coaches among others that appear as guests of the show.

Adams said, "this is an amazing adventure. It allows the two of us the platform to talk about the ever-changing economic environment and the numerous obstacles and challenges businesses face on a daily basis. Businesses and individuals come on and share with the listening audience how they deal with these barriers and turn them into opportunities. We highlight companies who are creating 'best practices'. Also, businesses who have learned to be more lean, and more profitable can share their outcomes with others in the business community."

Raskin and Adams both agree they have the right chemistry and mutual respect for each other, as well as mixing in some humor, which makes this show a tremendous success.

Prophet Share - Seasoned Professionals Sharing Trade Secrets
Prophet Share, Inc., formerly known as the RI Small Business Recovery Program, has emerged as an excellent example of what has become internationally known as "a sharing community".  In simple terms, "a sharing community" removes duplication that doesn't add value and concentrates on things that do add value. Through participation in Prophet Share, talented business owners and trainers (prophets) no longer have to individually own projection, video and recording equipment.  Nor do they have to rent expensive classroom or hotel space in order to share their talent and experience with their peers. As the result of this "penny-pinching" sharing approach, Profit Share, Inc. will be able to bring high-quality business training to the Rhode Island entrepreneurial community on a meager budget of less than $25,000 annually. In the past thirty two months, the Recovery Program provided peer-to-peer training to over 7,000 business owners and entrepreneurs.  With the collaborative efforts of experienced business leaders and teachers, Prophet Share, Inc. is expected to greatly add to that number.

To register for any of the free seminars below, please go to www.prophetshareri.com/events.  Any questions, please call Dave Nash at 401-447-8000.   All events will be held at the Centerville Seminar Center, 875 Centerville Rd, Warwick, RI - Building 2, Suite 5.

The Power of a Healthy, Nurturing Environment

The body and mind go together. Whatever happens to one affects the other. There's a symbiotic relationship between the two.

I went to a yoga retreat with my daughter several years ago. Besides the beauty of the place, the people who attended were inspiring. Years ago yoga classes were most often attended by highly spiritual individuals looking for an enlightened path. Today yoga is considered an art, exercise, and spiritual practice that draw millions from a myriad of backgrounds. The people who attended the retreat were high-powered executives and successful entrepreneurs holding demanding positions in high stress city environments. I was surprised to see how many of the attendees were devoted to yoga and thrived on the benefits they achieved. The teachers there were very respectful of the students' level of ability and they never pushed anyone to go beyond what they felt they could do.

In addition to skilled and loving teachers, the meals were very healing. The food was locally and organically grown and vegetarian. Everyone at the retreat loved the food and the company and so many people bonded there. The setting was in an old monastery, so the energy was peaceful and at the same time you could feel the quiet power and strength.  Being with my daughter, an avid yoga student, was a special treat.  I came back home feeling renewed.

We all want community, love, sharing, and more peace in our lives. Some of us forget that it is even possible because our lives are so chaotic and stressful. But as we surround ourselves with loving, accepting people, nurturing environments, healthy food and clean air, our attitudes change. We don't have to fight or flee - we can just be who we are.

In my first book, Success, Your Dream and You, I write,"There are many places that send out harmonious feelings, like retreat centers throughout the country, where you can go to restore strength, energy, and vitality. Such winning centers are worth finding because we can't create them in our lives unless we experience them.

You can create serenity anywhere - in your own home or even in your car. The home is an extension of ourselves. The décor tells people how we feel about ourselves. The workplace also reflects the energy of the people. Many offices are simply little cubicles and have no feeling of integration or joy. You can create your own winning environment at work by being creative. Your workplace, like your home, reflects your energy. Whenever possible, bring pictures, posters, and small ornaments to the office... We use our five senses to pick up important information. Our sensory awareness is responsible for much of the intuitive information we receive. You can compose your winning environment in the workplace by tuning into your senses."

In my book Pathfinding, I write, "We can find positive energy in a variety of ways, from being in the garden, to walking in the woods or on the beach, to spending time with a friend. Even special possessions, such as a pin, piece of crystal, a plate, a charm bracelet or grandmother's shawl, can give positive energy. Those are the things we need to surround ourselves with.

Search until you find the people and things that resonate with you like a tuning fork, and you are saying to yourself, 'I really love this,' 'It was so wonderful to be with that person today,' or 'going to that place did so much for me.' Then you know you are on that high frequency of positive energy."

Nurturing environments can be created almost anytime. If you use your creativity and imagination, you can transform where you are.

Sincerely,

Patricia
