                | | Greetings!

According to indepthinfo.com, Julius Caesar is the first human being to give his name to an entire month of the year. July has remained stable as months go. It has always possessed 31 days. The premier holiday of the summer season in the United States is Independence Day, commemorated on July 4th. This is one of the few holidays that has not proved amenable to being affixed to some Monday or other to create a three-day weekend. This is a great day for us Americans and is celebrated with parades, activities, and almost invariably by fireworks.       |

Conyers, author of the recovery classic Addict in the Family, describes in THE RECOVERING HEART how the seeds of insecurity are planted early on for women in our culture: On one hand, we are expected to be nurturing, pleasant, and wholesome. On the other hand, pornography permeates our culture and degrades the value of women. We are expected to be chaste and at the same time sexually proficient. We are told it's our minds, not our bodies, that matter, yet we are judged by our physical attractiveness.

 | Vacations and Rejuvination
According to the American Heritage Dictonaries onanswers.com , three definitions of vacation are listed: "A period of time devoted to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, especially one with pay granted to an employee. A holiday. A fixed period of holidays, especially one during which a school, court, or business suspends activities." The first sentence referring to pleasure, rest and relaxation, is what I want to address here. This is one of the major vacation months of the year and so many of us go somewhere in July or August. The July 4th weekend is often a cataylst for travel during that week.   Vacations are part of our rest and relaxation to refuel. When we keep driving ourselves, eventually our emotional or physical health breaks down.
For those of us who view vacations as frivolous or self-indulgent, I say, think again. Vacations give you a totally different point of view because you are in a totally different environment. As you get away and can view things from a distance, you can see situations in a different light. Vacations can also help you rejuvenate yourself so that when you get back to our work and home life, you have renewed energy and often a new and fresh perspective. The benefits you gain from vacations go much deeper than fun in the sun, good restaurants, entertainment and shopping. Vacations really gives you the opportunity to "vacate" from where you were and enter a new world.

It is important to choose vacations wisely. You choose different experiences at different times in your life to meet your needs at the time. When you need more stimulation and activity, you may choose a more active vacation. When you need rest and healing, you may choose a more relaxing slower paced experience. The distance and cost of the vacation do not need to be major factors. You can get the results we want by traveling 20 miles away as much as 2000 miles away. It's the quality of the vacation, the environment you choose, and the resolution you have to leave your cares and worries at home, so that you can really relax, rejuvenate, restore and revive your hopes and dreams.

 Sincerely, Patricia
