Greetings! April is a favorite month for me. It is my birth month and a month in Spring. We begin to become anxious to get outdoors and open up some windows to let the light spring breeze in our homes. Also, it's time to pull down the bikes from the attic and dust them off, oil the chains and unbury the bike helmets, dig out the dollar blades from the boxes marked summer stuff, and lace up the walking shoes. As the photo shows, it is time to open your heart to spring. Photo Credit: Sheila O'Driscoll

Spring Cleaning Inside and Out
Technically, spring is here, but nature has it's own timetable. You can still get ready as it warms up and you feel true spring coming. This is the time to clean out the cupboards, wash the curtains and vacuum under the hidden spaces. Spring cleaning represents new growth. As part of this growth, you are cleaning out the old and getting ready for the new. The new can be planting flowers, buying new outdoor furniture, taking up a new hobby or sport, making a new friend, or doing the things you wanted to do, but were not motivated to do in the winter.
When you clean and air out your home, you invite the "new air" in. This is a time to look at what you have with fresh eyes. Think about rearranging the furniture, using what you have in a different way or painting the walls a new color. Pick up a new book, browse the paper for spring events to attend, and be sure to step outside and see how the trees, beach, flowers, and shrubs have changed.
Getting ready for the new also applies to our thinking. It's time as part of this spring cleaning, to clean out the old attitudes, beliefs and thoughts that just don't serve you anymore. My friend and guest on my radio show Bill Irwin, says this, "Give those old unwanted thoughts just three seconds. Then do something else. Move or change your activity. If you can't do that, I say you really don't want to change. You want to "keep rolling in the cactus." This is good advice from the author of Blind Courage, who climbed the Appalachian Trial blind with his dog Orient. No blind person since him has made the thru-hike on the Appalachian Trial.
To do some internal spring cleaning, ask yourself, "What do I want to clean out and what do I want to bring in?" Here are some thoughts. Clean out the cupboards of your house and your mind. Get rid of items you no longer want and need and get rid of the thoughts you no longer want. Concentrate on bringing into your life joy, love, peace-of-mind, safety, comfort, appreciation, abundance, and order. Before you pick up a broom, vacuum cleaner or dust cloth, go around the house and do an inventory. Then picture how things will look and how you will feel when you have done your spring cleaning. And if you can, picture how you will feel when you have new fresh positive thoughts and attitudes. Freedom can be yours when you clean out the old and bring in the new - for good! Happy Spring!
Sincerely,
Patricia
