OC Arts Leaders Learn New Approaches in "Audiences Everywhere"
Last week, over 60 leaders of Orange County arts organizations gathered for Matt Lehrman's "Audiences Everywhere" , a dynamic and interactive workshop, where they learned new approaches to growing their support bases.  The workshop was presented by Arts Orange County through support from Bank of America.  Attendees included representatives from the following organizations:  City of Brea, Philharmonic Society of OC, City of Mission Viejo, Saddleback College, OC Women's Chorus, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts, South Coast Repertory, Harbor Lites, The Gourmet Detective, Pacific Symphony, Men Alive, The Wooden Floor, Bowers Museum, City of Irvine, Pacific Chorale, Relampago del Cielo, Hope for Arts, OC Department of Education, Cabrillo Playhouse, Festival Ballet Theatre, Laguna Dance Festival, Seal Beach Performing Arts Association, and Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble.
OC Register 2016 Varsity Artists of the Year Announced
"For the third year in a row, the Register's Artist of the Year program is honoring [high school] juniors and seniors nominated by their arts teachers because they stand out among their peers in theater, dance, film, vocal music, visual arts and instrumental music.  Our program is catching on. This year, the number of students nominated was double that of last year: 391 nominations representing 74 county high school programs."  Read more here.

Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Will Tour China Next Month

From June 24-July 3, 2016, approximately 107 students from Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO), 11 parents (serving as chaperones), the Symphony's new assistant conductor Roger Kalia and a handful of Symphony staff members will fly off on a once-in-a-lifetime journey-embarking on a tour of China. They will be performing in three cities: Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai.  Read more here.

The City of Newport Beach is calling for artists to submit works for its 52nd Annual Art Exhibition.  The deadline for submissions is May 27, and complete details may be found here.
INTERIM MANAGING DIRECTOR APPOINTED AT LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE
Ellen Richard, a seasoned theatre professional with a career that has included senior positions with New York's Roundabout Theatre Company and Second Stage, as well as San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre, will take the helm on an interim basis at Laguna Playhouse, it was announced today.
