The City of Mission Viejo has long embraced arts and culture in the community. As part of its Cultural Arts Master Plan process, the City will host a community forum on January 14 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. The forum will give community members the chance to share their ideas and thoughts about the future of arts and culture in our City. Staff will use the valuable information gathered during the forum to help prioritize and plan cultural arts events and services that are in line with the community's needs and desires. For more information, call 949-470-8440.

WHAT NEXT FOR LIDO THEATER?

Lido Live lost its lease with the Duda Company on the historic Lido Theater on Balboa, according to this story in the Newport Beach Independent.  The Lido has been one of the venues used by the annual Newport Beach Film Festival, and its CEO Gregg Schwenk commented:  "The Lido Theater is a critical part of Film Festival screenings offered to citizens of Newport Beach.  We stand ready to work with Via Lido Plaza and the Duda Company to help with film programming at the Lido Theater. What's important to note is that the Lido Theater is a culturally significant building. With the final closure of the Balboa Theater, there is nothing else on the peninsula that speaks to any form of community culture and art. It's probably the oldest operating theater in Orange County, it recently celebrated its 75th birthday. I hope the Newport Beach Film Festival can breathe life into the theater."
