Veterans Museum to Open at OC Fair in 2016

The present Orange County Fairgrounds sit on what was once the Santa Ana Army Air Base, where more than half of all U.S. flyers were trained during World War II.  To commemorate the site's historic role--and to honor all veterans, a new museum will open there in 2016.  Read more about it in this article in the Orange County Register.
New Horizons--and a New Mission Statement--for Cal State Fullerton's School of Music

With its new designation as a School, a recent dedication event highlighted by a performance by one of its best known alumni (Deborah Voigt), and a new dean of the College of the Arts, of which it is a part, Cal State Fullerton's School of Music Director Marc Dickey (third from the right, back row) asked Arts Orange County to help kickstart its strategic planning process through the development of a new mission statement.  Over the course of three meetings, ArtsOC's Rick Stein (fourth from left) worked with School of Music faculty to identify the key elements of its primary mission, and helped them to craft wording that tells their story in a brief, aspirational and informative mission statement that will be unveiled by them soon.

"You CAN Go Home Again":
Familiar Faces Take Over as Interim Leaders of Two OC Organizations
Two former OC arts leaders have been tapped to serve as interim heads of local arts programs. Jerry Mandel (top) is serving as Interim President of the Irvine Barclay Theatre while it completes a search for a successor to longtime Barclay head Douglas C. Rankin, who stepped down at the end of August. Mandel, former President of the Orange County Performing Arts Center (now Segerstrom Center for the Arts), has continued to be a ubiquitous presence locally as a jazz performer after his retirement. Previously, he was Vice Chancellor for Advancement at UC Irvine. Richard Bryant (bottom), has stepped into the role of director of the Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University, which is scheduled to have its grand opening on March 19. From 1987-1996, Bryant was Director of Marketing and Communications for the Orange County Performing Arts Center. He left OC to help open the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
