2014 OC Arts Initiative Grantees Prepare to Launch Projects:

Annual Program Pairs OCCF Funding with ArtsOC Mentorship

The longtime partnership of Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) and Arts Orange County (ArtsOC) continues in 2014 with the awarding of grants in the Orange County Arts Initiative Program.  Generally targeting small and mid-sized arts organization, during the past two years the program has focused on helping these groups deepen their community engagement and strengthen the evaluation of their impact.  The application period for these grants is open each fall and grants are announced at the end of the year.

Following the successful publication last fall of OC Register Magazine's Fall 2013 Arts Preview Issue, the Orange County Register is again partnering with Arts Orange County to publish a summer edition on May 12.  Deadlines and specifications may be found here.

 Strong Response to 5th Annual Creative Edge Lecture

A large audience is expected for Arts Orange County's Fifth Annual Creative Edge Lecture on March 26th featuring John Maeda.  This nationally-known expert on the nexus of the arts and technology will share his revolutionary ideas about how leadership must change in the 21st century--a message for people in all walks of life.   The lecture is sponsored by The Boeing Company and presented in collaboration with the Orange County Department of Education, 4th District PTA and Segerstrom Center for the Arts.  More information and tickets here.

The membership of Emerging Arts Leaders-Orange County, coordinated by Arts Orange County, has grown to more than 100.  If you are a young arts professional or new to the field, you are invited to participate in the monthly gatherings.  The next one takes place on March 18 at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens in San Clemente.  For more information, contact Kristina Colby.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced The Children's Museum at La Habra as a National Medal for Museum and Library Service finalist. The National Medal is the nation's highest honor conferred on museums and libraries for service to the community.  Medal finalists are selected from nationwide nominations of institutions that demonstrate innovative approaches to public service, exceeding the expected levels of community outreach.

 

The Children's Museum at La Habra, a hands-on learning center for children from infancy through age 12, opened in December 1977, and is located in a historic 1923 Union Pacific Depot Train Depot.
