OC Museum of Art Names Dan Cameron its Interim Director

 

Dan Cameron, Chief Curator of the Orange County Museum of Art, has been appointed to serve as its Interim Director & CEO while it conducts a search for a successor to Dennis Szakacs, who left in December.

New Director for Newport Beach Public Library
Tim Hetherton has been appointed Library Services Director for the City of Newport Beach. Hetherton joined the City in 1998 as a reference librarian and was gradually promoted to library services manager. He became the acting library services director upon Cynthia Cowell's retirement in October 2013.
The library services director oversees the Newport Beach Central Library and three branch libraries, a full-time and part-time staff of approximately six dozen employees, a nearly $7- million annual budget, and works closely with support groups such as the Friends of the Library and the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation. The library services director also provides staff support to the Board of Library Trustees and the City Arts Commission. Hetherton earned a Bachelor's degree in English from St. Mary's College, a Master's degree in International Studies from Dominican College, and a Master's of Library Science degree from San Jose State University.
U.S. Bank Awards Grant to Arts Orange County

U.S. Bancorp Foundation has awarded a grant to Arts Orange County in support of its 2014 Dia del Nino/Day of the Child in Santa Ana's Birch Park on April 27th.  This is a flagship event of ArtsOC's annual month-long countywide arts festival, The Imagination Celebration, and features a day filled with performances and hands-on arts experiences for families and children.  Dia del Nino is presented in partnership with El Centro Cultural de Mexico, Santa Ana's largest all-volunteer community arts organization.  Presenting the check to ArtsOC was Ana A. Gonzalez, Assistant Vice President of U.S. Bank's Community Affairs Division in Orange County.  She is seen above with ArtsOC's Rick Stein and Pat Wayne.
San Clemente Calling for Submissions for Street Art Program
The City of San Clemente has announced its third call for artists to submit concepts for its Street Art program, begun in 2012, which offers publicly-located utility boxes as canvases.  More details here.

NEA Budget Effectively Increased for 2014

According to Americans for the Arts, details of the FY 2014 Omnibus spending bill reveal that not only has the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) averted a proposed 49% cut, but its $146 million for the year is, in effect an increase over last year's budget since Congress is suspending the automatic sequester cuts.  The bill passed the House today and is expected to achieve passage in the Senate later this week.

2014 NEA Grant Guidelines Announced
The National Endowment for the Arts has announced a number of changes to its guidelines and deadlines for the Art Works and Challenge America Fast-Track grants programs.  Free webinars are being offered to guide people through the changes.  More details here. 
New Appointee to California Arts Council

On Friday, December 20 Governor Jerry Brown announced the appointment of Donn K. Harris of San Francisco to the California Arts Council. Mr. Harris has been Executive and Artistic Director at the Oakland School for the Arts since 2007.  More details here.

The Centennial Futures Conference at Fullerton College taking place on Friday, January 31 in the Campus Theatre has extended its early-bird registration deadline to January 22nd.  The $25 fee includes a day of speakers, arts experiences & meals.  More details here.
