The Samueli Theater was filled with people helping to celebrate the 2013 honorees being recognized at the 14th Annual Orange County Arts Awards on September 24. The evening, which began with a VIP dinner for the honorees and major sponsors in Leatherby's Café Rouge, featured performances by members of the jetsetter jazz ensemble Nutty, the Krechkovsky-Loucks chamber music duo and award-winning jazz flutist Nicole Mitchell.
Co-emceeing the event were Lucy Dunn, CEO of the Orange County Business Council, who underscored the important roles they and ArtsOC are playing in STEAM education, and ArtsOC Executive Director Rick Stein. Together, they reviewed highlights of the past year in the arts, comings and goings among major arts leaders, and the event once again included a touching "In Memoriam" interlude to pay homage to artists, arts leaders and arts patrons who passed away this year. Receiving the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Awards for lifetime service were contemporary art gallery owner Peter Blake, Bowers Museum president Dr. Peter Keller, arts patrons S. Paul and Marybelle Musco, and founder of the Fullerton Friends of Music Beulah Strickler. Annual Achievement Award honorees included the Laguna College of Art + Design (Outstanding Arts Organization), Andre Woodward (Outstanding Artist; seen above), and University of California, Irvine-Claire Trevor School of the Arts' New Swan Theater (Outstanding Contribution to the Built Environment).
